Looking Ahead - November 18

2 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Today, we like the chances of a Godolphin homebred stepping out at Wyong, while at Mornington we're in the corner of a Mike Moroney-trained filly and a $650,000 yearling purchase by China Horse Club and Newgate Bloodstock.

Wyong, Race 1, 2pm AEDT, Book Your Christmas Party Maiden, $35,000, 1000m

Godolphin homebred Reverse (Exceed And Excel) is out of G1 Sires’ Produce S. and G1 Australia S. winner Virage De Fortune (Anabaa {USA}), who is also responsible for G3 Gloaming S. runner-up and G1 Caulfield Guineas fourth Subedar (Sepoy).

Virage De Fortune was purchased by Darley Australia for $3.4 million at the 2007 Inglis Broodmare Sale and she is a sister to multiple stakes winner Avenue and a half-sister to the stakes-placed Glasnost (Red Ransom {USA}), Censor (Elusive Quality {USA}) and Lorna May (Redoute’s Choice).

Mornington, Race 3, 2.10pm AEDT, Modtech Plate, $35,000, 1200m

The Mike Moroney-trained Seattle Dancer (Redoute’s Choice) was purchased by Paul Moroney Bloodstock and Ballymore Stables for $500,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Newgate Farm and is out of G1 Manawatu Sires’ Produce S. winner Fleur De’here (NZ) (Dehere {USA}).

Last start winner Strategist (Written Tycoon) was a $650,000 yearling purchase by China Horse Club and Newgate Bloodstock, before being bought by Amy Johnston Bloodstock for $27,500 in the Inglis Digital May Sale.

Strategist as a yearling

He is out of stakes-winning Exceed And Excel mare Baby Corn, making him a half-brother to dual Group 1 placegetter Cornrow (Duporth). His second dam is G3 Matriarch S. winner Sweet Corn (Scenic {Ire}), while he is also related to the multiple stakes placegetter Double You Tee (Written Tycoon).
