Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
On Tuesday, Peter Moody looks for a first win for a speedy daughter of Pride Of Dubai at Kyneton, while at Newcastle, Kris Less debuts a 3-year-old out of a Group 1 winner and Mark Newnham aims an impressive trial winner at a first-up success.
Kyneton, Race 3, 2pm AEDT, No Fuss Solutions F&M Mdn, $23,000, 1112m
Dance To Dubai (Pride Of Dubai) had just the one run as a 2-year-old, where she was narrowly beaten by subsequent stakes horse in Dirty Thoughts (So You Think {NZ}) back in July. She looked really sharp in comfortably winning a recent Pakenham jump-out and this looks a good maiden for her.
Dance To Dubai as a yearling
She was a $110,000 purchase from the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Sledmere Stud. Her dam, Brisk (GB) (Nayef {USA}) is a half-sister to multiple American stakeswinner Costume (GB) (Danehill {USA}) from a family which has produced a host of international stakes winners, including Group 1 winner Epicurus (GB) (Rail Link {GB}).
Newcastle, Race 4, 4.10pm AEDT, Red Funnel Mdn, $22,000, 1350m
Lumber Dream (Snitzel) debuts for Kris Lees and the Wanless family and boasts an imposing pedigree, being out of Group 1 winner Lights Of Heaven (NZ) (Zabeel {NZ}), who has already produced a stakes-placegetter in Angel Of Heaven (Redoute's Choice).
Snitzel, sire of Lumber Dream | Standing at Arrowfield Stud
He has had three trials ahead of his first start, the best of which was the second, where he was narrowly beaten into third. It appears he might be a horse, like his Oaks-winning dam, who will appreciate distance and you can look for him to be working home well here with more suitable races to come over further in the future.
Newcastle, Race 5, 4.45pm AEDT, Coastline Pools and Spas Mdn, $22,000, 1200m
Jolie's Choice (Choisir) looks ready to make a big impression on debut here for Mark Newnham, having won a trio of trials over the past month. She shows plenty of speed and should give her rivals something to chase.
Choisir, sire of Jolie's Choice | Standing at Coolmore
She is a half-sister to Group 2 winner Formality (Fastnet Rock) out of the Listed Singapore Derby winner Jolie's Shinju (Jpn) (Jolie's Halo {USA}). Belmont Bloodstock paid $300,000 for her from Coolmore's draft at the 2018 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale.
