Looking Ahead - November 28

3 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Today, we are in the camp of a well-related filly making her first appearance at Rosehill, a 3-year-old at Kembla Grange who is from the family of Zoustar and at The Valley we fancy the chances of a runaway trial winner making his race day debut.

Rosehill, Race 1, 1.15pm AEDT, De Bortoli Wines H., $125,000, 1100m

Centro Storico (Snitzel) was bought out of Glastonbury Farms’ draft at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for $410,000 by Galletta Construction and will be the first representative to the races of Chachapoyas (Medaglia D’Oro {USA}), a winner as a 2-year-old and stakes-placed. She is a half-sister to the G3 Newcastle Spring S. winner Aramayo (Poet’s Voice {GB}).

Centro Storico as a yearling

Their dam is a half-sister to the multiple Group 1 winner and sire In The Wings (GB) and his G2 Prix Hubert de Chaudenay-winning brother and sire Morozov (USA). Trained by Richard Litt, Centro Storico was a dominant winner at the Warwick Farm trials earlier this month where she was ridden by Glyn Schofield, who takes the mount again.

Kembla Grange, Race 2, 1.34pm AEDT, Neil Paine H., $35,000, 1600m

The Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou-trained Maxcalemma (Bel Esprit) showed sharp improvement on an unplaced debut performance when the 3-year-old was a fast-closing second at Hawkesbury. Christian Reith will continue his association with the gelding, who should relish the step up to a mile, and they appeal as a top combination.

Maxcalemma as a yearling

Maxcalemma was twice passed in at auction before he was bought by Lily Maley for $10,000 at the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale where he was offered by Cadman Lodge. He is a half-brother to the G3 Festival S. and R. Listed Magic Millions Cup winner Testashadow (Testa Rossa) and their dam is the six-time winner Moonlight Shadow (Flying Spur). Most notably, it is the family of the dual Group 1 winner and successful sire Zoustar.

The Valley, Race 2, 1.30pm AEDT, Ladbrokes Plate, $125,000, 1000m

Brazen Boy (Brazen Beau) is the first foal of Cocoa Doll (More Than Ready {USA}), who won on three occasions and is a half-sister to the G2 Percy Sykes S. winner and G1 Golden Slipper S. runner-up Away Game (Snitzel). Their dam Elusive Wonder (Elusive Quality {USA}) was successful as a 2-year-old and was a black type performer from the family of the G1 Randwick Guineas winner and sire Inference.

Prepared by Phillip Stokes, Brazen Boy impressed in his only trial outing at Morphettville where he won an 800 metre trial by 14l. While race day is a whole new experience, he has showed his pace and from an inside gate can give a bold sight in the hands of the in-form Jamie Kah.
