Looking Ahead - December 13

3 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Today, we zero in on the prospects of a pair of lightly-tried maiden contenders who we believe can post the first winning strikes of their careers at Hawkesbury while at Bendigo we are in the corner of a well-related colt making his first appearance.

Hawkesbury, Race 2, 2.30pm AEDT, Unphased Electrics H., $35,000, 1100m

Little White Lies (Snitzel) placed in one of her two starts last preparation for Team Hawkes and the filly will be having her first outing from Will Freedman’s Scone stable. She will be ridden by the in-form Jason Collett and from the inside gate should get every opportunity to successfully resume.

Snitzel, sire of Little White Lies

A half-sister to three winners including the Listed Gosford Guineas placegetter Tell Me (Choisir), Little White Lies is a daughter of Sweet Little Lies (Elusive Quality {USA}), who was successful as a 2-year-old. She is out of a half-sister to the G3 Thoroughbred Breeders S. winner Dama De Noche (Snippets), who produced the dual Listed winner Nocturnelle (Elusive Quality {USA}) and she is the dam of the G3 Up And Coming S. winner Dracarys (Snitzel).

Hawkesbury, Race 3, 3.05pm AEDT, North Kellyville Pre-School Plate, $35,000, 1100m

Zouly (Zoustar) was offered at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale by Widden Stud and was secured by Tricolours Racing & Syndications for $100,000. A half-sister to four winners, she is out of Mellow Elle (Thunder Gulch {USA}) and she is a half-sister to six-time winner and stakes performer Wyndham Easy (Rory’s Jester) and her sister Twin Peaks was also placed twice at Listed level. The family further features the South African Group 3 winner and Group 1 placegetter Rich Girl (Rock Of Gibraltar {Ire}).

Zouly as a yearling

Trained by Joe Pride, Zouly placed in both of her starts during her first campaign and following a break produced a solid run to finish third at Wyong. She will no doubt strip a fitter filly for that outing and with the benefit of Rachel King’s services again should be hard to roll.

Bendigo, Race 1, 12.55pm AEDT, bet365 Odds Drift Protector 2YO< $35,000, 1000m

Rusheen (Toronado {Ire}) was a $60,000 purchase for trainer Tony Noonan out of Lime Country Thoroughbreds’ draft at the Classic Sale and is the first foal of the winning Fastnet Rock mare Irish Rose. She is a half-sister to the G2 Champagne Classic winner and three-time Group 1 placegetter Tangled (Snitzel) and the Listed winners Sebrose (Sebring) and Maules Creek (Redoute’s Choice).

Rusheen as a yearling

Their dam is the G1 New Zealand Oaks winner Bramble Rose (NZ) (Shinko King {Ire}) and under the second dam is the G3 Tauranga S. winner Lady Chaparral (NZ) (High Chaparral {Ire}). Rusheen has a handy enough barrier and in the hands of the trainer’s son Jake can give a bold sight on debut.
