In the build up to New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale, we have picked out three yearlings who have had substantial pedigree updates in the past couple of months.
Today, we check out a trio of fillies, the first whose half-brother was a recent Group 1 winner, the second whose family have bene in good form in Queensland, and the third, who features a host of stakes performers on her page.
Lot 75 - Redwood (GB) x Rock On Rye (Catcher In The Rye {Ire}) - On Account of Cambria Park
This filly's brother Rock On Wood (NZ), was already a stakes winner when the New Zealand Bloodstock catalogue went to print, but added a huge update when he won the G1 Captain Cook S. at Trentham in December. That was off the back of a win at Awapuni in November, while subsequent to his Group 1 success, he finished fourth in the G1 Zabeel Classic at Ellerslie on Boxing Day.
Rock On Wood is the lone stakes winner on the page through the first three generations, although their second dam, Beldale Blues (NZ) (Beldale Lear {USA}) was stakes-placed as was her half-brother Likable Will (His Royal Highness {NZ}).
Lot 75 - Redwood (GB) x Rock On Rye (filly)
Lot 102 - Reliable Man (GB) x Sexy Thing (Mossman) - On Account Of Westbury Stud
This filly's half-sister Smart 'N' Sexy (Smart Missile) was a smart Saturday winner at Eagle Farm earlier this month. A winner of the Listed Dalrello S. last season, she looks a capable of further black type this time in for Toby and Trent Edmonds.
Her dam, Sexy Thing, is a half-sister to two stakes-winners in Golconda (Snitzel) and Sermon (Octagonal {NZ}). Golconda is the dam of the recent stakes-placed 2-year-old Marine One (Capitalist) as well as the colt by Capitalist which sold for $975,000 at last week's Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. The second dam, Eureka Jewel (Semipalatinsk {USA}), was a winner of the G2 Kewney S.
Lot 102 - Reliable Man (GB) x Sexy Thing (filly)
Lot 318 - Mongolian Khan x College Girl (All American) - On Account of Westbury Stud
This filly's dam holds plenty of appeal as the sister of Group 1 winner Yankee Rose and half-sister to Great Dansaar (Choisir), who is the dam of smart 3-year-old Isotope (Deep Field). Isotope put together back-to-back stakes wins in the Listed Mode Plate and the Listed Gold Edition Plate recently before she struck major trouble when favourite in the R. Listed Magic Millions 3YO Guineas, dislodging her jockey.
Another of College Girl's half-sisters, Miravalle (Redoute's Choice), was recently fourth in the G1 VRC Oaks, while the yearling half-sister to College Girl, also by Redoute's Choice, was secured for $500,000 at the recent Magic Millions Yearling Sale, where Isotope's brother also sold, in his case for $450,000.
