Looking Ahead - February 9

3 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Today, we zero in on a pair of lightly-tried 3-year-olds who drew attention to their chances at Hawkesbury with sound lead-up performances while at Kyneton we like the debut prospects of a colt who is a half-brother to a pair of Group winners and sires.

Loveland (Not A Single Doubt) has an outstanding opportunity to post the first victory here of her fledgeling career. The filly has been taken along quietly by Peter and Paul Snowden and was turned out after a debut sixth and returned to finish runner-up at Goulburn and can go one better.

Not A Single Doubt, sire of Loveland

Raced by breeder Corumbene Stud and partners, Loveland is a valuable sister to the G1 Hong Kong Champion’s Mile winner Southern Legend and their dam Donna’s Appeal (Carnegie {Ire}), who was successful in three sprint events. She is a daughter of the Listed Gimcrack S. winner Donna Natalia (Anabaa {USA}) and from the family of the G1 The Galaxy winner and successful sire Charge Forward.

Hawkesbury, Race 2, 2.25pm AEDT, Windsor Rotary Plate, $35,000, 1500m

The John O’Shea-trained Blaze Seven (NZ) (Sacred Falls {NZ}) showed significant improvement to finish a last-start fourth at Wyong, where she was well-backed and made solid ground after going back from an awkward gate.

Blaze Seven finished second in her New Zealand debut for Warren Bolton, who bought the filly, co-bred by Waikato Stud, out of Willowbank Stud’s New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale draft for NZ$52,500. She is a half-sister to Bobo So Cute (NZ) (Savabeel), a multiple black type winner in Macau, and their dam Celebes Sea (NZ) (Shinko King {Ire}) is a daughter of the G3 Wellington S. winner Syrian Sea (NZ) (Vice Regal {NZ}) and the pedigree also features the dual Group 1 winner Booming (NZ) (Don Eduardo {NZ}).

Kyneton, Race 1, 1.30pm AEDT, Bet365 Odds Drift Protector Plate, $35,000, 1112m

There will be plenty of interest in the debut performance here of Rights Of Man (Snitzel) as he is a half-brother to the G1 Caulfield Guineas winner Shooting To Win and his G2 Tab.com.au S.-winning sibling Deep Field, both carving out successful careers at stud.

Their dam Listen Here (Elusive Quality {USA}) won the Listed Pewsey Vale S. and the G1 Manawatu Sires’ Produce S. winner Luna Rossa (Written Tycoon) also appears in the up-front family. Raced by breeder Cressfield Stud with the China Horse Club, Rights Of Man is trained by Danny O’Brien and off the back of a trial placing looks worthy of first-up support.
