Listed Ladbrokes Torney Night Cup, $150,000, 2500m

Race summary

The Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained import Starcaster (GB) (Dansili {GB}) has added black type to his resume, with a dominant staying performance.

Leading hoop Jamie Kah rated the gelding superbly and never gave her rivals a chance, producing the 6-year-old with 400 metres to run. From there he quickly put away Vadiyaan (Fr) (Footstepsinthesand {GB}) en route to a 2.5l victory.

Stars Of Carrum (Fiorente {Ire}) ran home strongly into second from back in the field while the well-supported Mosh Music (Moshe) faded into a distant seventh, after being caught three-wide over the first 1000 metres.

Pedigree notes

Starcaster is the first of three black type-performed foals out of former Hughie Morrison-trained mare Shirocco Star (GB) (Shirocco {Ger}). She was Group 1-placed on three occasions, finishing second in the G1 Epsom Oaks and G1 Irish Oaks. Her only victory came as a juvenile in the Listed Newbury Julia Tooth Memorial 2YO Fillies' S.

Her second foal Telecaster (GB) (New Approach {Ire}) won four races between 2000 and 2500 metres. And his successes Include the G2 York Dante S., G2 Grand Prix de Deauville and G3 Paris Longchamp La Coupe. He currently stands at the Devin family's historic Haras du Mesnil stud in Normandy for a fee of €4000 (AU$6267).

Her most recent foal Al Suhail (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) is a 4-year-old colt raced by Godolphin under Charlie Appleby. He also boasts black type success, winning the Listed Sir Henry Cecil S. in July last year.
