Looking Ahead - February 13

3 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Today, we are expecting a juvenile at Randwick to maintain his unbeaten record while at Flemington we like a pair of lightly-raced prospects with Group 1 backgrounds to make their presences felt.

Randwick, Race 2, 1.50pm AEDT, Silverdale Farm Pierro Plate, $150,000, 1100m

Stay Inside (Extreme Choice) was offered by breeder Kingstar Farm at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Weanling Sale where he was purchased by Newgate for $60,000. He was subsequently offered there the following year as a yearling and sold to trainers Richard and Michael Freedman and Rick Connolly Bloodstock for $200,000.

He is a son of Nothin Leica Storm (Anabaa {USA}), a half-sister to the dam of the G1 Caulfield Guineas winner and sire Wonderful World. Stay Inside provided an early return on his investment when successful on debut on this course last month and with James McDonald booked for the ride they look the combination to beat.

Flemington, Race 2, 12.55pm AEDT, Listed Talindert S., $140,000, 1100m

Treporti (I Am Invincible) was bred by Lynch Bages and bought out of Yarraman Park Stud’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale draft by Kiwi bloodstock agent Bruce Perry for $600,000. The colt is a half-brother to three international winners including More Than Love (USA) (More Than Ready {USA}), successful in the G3 Hollywood Park Miesque S.

Their dam I’m In Love (USA) (Zafonic {USA}) won four races and was stakes-placed on multiple occasions. She hails from the family of the G1 Cheveley Park S. winner Alcohol Free (Ire) (No Nay Never {USA}). Trained by Danny O’Brien, Treporti was third on debut and then a sound fourth in the G3 Maribyrnong Plate before a break. A runner-up finish at Monday’s Cranbourne trials should have him primed for a bold fresh bid.

Flemington, Race 5, G3 The Vanity, $160,000, 1400m

The sparingly-raced filly Zou Dancer (Zoustar) has made a good impression with a soft maiden victory at Dunkeld and last time out beat a competitive age group lineup over this course and distance. The Leon and Troy Corstens-trained representative drops 3kg on that run and has the added bonus of the very much in-form Jamie Kah to guide her fortunes.

Zou Dancer was purchased out of Newgate’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale draft by Bennett Racing and McEvoy Mitchell Racing for $150,000 and is a daughter of Investigates (Strategic), whose three foals to race have all been successful. She is out of the G1 VRC Oaks winner and G1 Australian Oaks runner-up Tributes (Quest For Fame {GB}).
