Finance Tycoon hasn’t missed a beat in his lead-up to the G1 Neds Blue Diamond S. and G1 Lamaro’s Sth Melbourne Futurity S. contender Crosshaven will be at the top of his game.
The pair are prepared by Tom Dabernig and Ben Hayes, who will also be represented in the Futurity by So Si Bon (So You Think {NZ}), although his time to shine is expected to come with the benefit of the outing.
Finance Tycoon has won two of his four starts and hasn’t raced since he finished sixth from the outside barrier in the R. Listed Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
“I must say, when he drew an inside gate I thought it gave him a genuine, good each way chance. He hasn’t done anything wrong and has good form around General Beau and Ingratiating, which is all tied into the Blue Diamond,” Ben Hayes said.

Finance Tycoon was runner-up in his spring debut behind General Beau (Brazen Beau), a last-start winner of the males’ division of the G3 Blue Diamond Prelude, and then beat Ingratiating (Frosted {USA}), who was successful in last Saturday’s Listed Talindert S., in the G3 Maribyrnong Plate.
To be ridden again by Luke Nolen, Finance Tycoon has since won on the Gold Coast and came from last in the Magic Millions.
“We’re really happy with him. His run in the Magic Millions was good after going back from the wide draw and he had no luck in the running,” Hayes said. “The horse that we beat the start before, Shaquero, won that race.
“He’s done exceptionally well during a break and had a nice trial in between times. He’s a horse that has snuck under the radar a bit and we think that’s a good thing.
“He’s a very straightforward horse and one of his assets is that he jumps well and can put himself in a good position. Even in the Magic Millions he was one of the first out,” Hayes said.

“Hopefully, on Saturday he can take advantage of his gate and get that nice position and then finish off strongly. We couldn’t be happier with him.”
Bred by Boom Racing Thoroughbreds, Finance Tycoon was bought out of Eureka Stud’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale draft for $150,000 by McKeever Bloodstock and is the first winner for the Darci Brahma (NZ) mare Darook Park.
She is a half-sister to Silk Pins (NZ) (Pins), who was a 2-year-old winner and placed in the G1 Diamond S. and R. Listed Karaka Million.
Finance Tycoon as a yearling
In top form
Crosshaven has won five of his eight starts, including two at Group 3 level in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude and Carbine Club S., and last time out finished third in the G1 CF Orr S. for rider Daniel Stackhouse, who takes the mount again.
“We’re really happy with that. We thought it was a great run against the older horses at weight-for-age. He had a nice run in the race and was strong through the line,” Hayes said.
“He’s come on fitness-wise and his work since has been fantastic. We worked him in blinkers on Monday and he was very good in them. He travelled well and it was a really strong piece of work.
“Second-up with a good barrier we think he will run an improved race, but we’re under no illusions. It’s one of the harder Group 1s this year with a few stars in it. If he can run well it shows everyone he’s a very good class horse.”
So Si Bon, who will also be ridden by Nolen, will be making a fresh start following a spring campaign that netted him victory in the G3 Eclipse S. and a third placing in the G1 Makybe Diva S. He has twice won off a break in the past.
“All his runs have been competitive and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him getting home well. I think he will probably need the run, it’s probably one of the harder first-up runs he’s ever had and it will set him up beautifully for some nice races in the autumn.”
