Launceston, Listed Kevin Sharkie Tasmanian Oaks, $150,000, 2100m

Race summary

Chequerboard (Fastnet Rock) has secured a valuable black-type victory, proving the superior stayer in the Listed Kevin Sharkie Tasmanian Oaks (2100 metres) at Launceston on Sunday.

After initially being trapped wide, jockey Brendon McCoull got the Tom Dabernig and Ben Hayes-trained filly in an ideal position just off the early pace, set by Swelter Magic (Ghibellines).

Chequerboard, runner-up in the Listed Strutt S. last time out, produced a strong burst at the top of the straight to assume control of the race and while Queen Adele (Adelaide {Ire}) briefly looked a chance to run her down at the 200-metre mark, the favourite kicked clear to win by 1.5l, with My Squeeze Louise (NZ) (Mongolian Khan) in third, another 3.5l adrift.

The win, the third in 10 starts for Chequerboard, doubles her career prizemoney to $176,000.

Pedigree notes

Chequerboard becomes stakes winner number 169 for the legendary Fastnet Rock.

She was retained to race by Coolmore having been passed in short of her NZ$300,000 reserve at the 2019 New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale at Karaka, where she was offered by Rich Hill Stud.

She is one of two winners from unraced Zabeel (NZ) mare Chi (NZ), a half-sister to Group 2 winner What Can I Say (NZ) (Khozaam {NZ}), stakes winner Wry Hero (NZ) (Clay Hero) and closely related to Group 1 winner Invader and his half-brother Not Listen'tome (Dylan Thomas {Ire}) and Group 2 winner Holy Snow (Fastnet Rock).

Chi has an unraced 2-year-old called Chia Pod (Pride Of Dubai) and foaled a So You Think (NZ) colt last year.

Pinjarra, Listed Tabtouch Pinjarra Classic, $130,000, 1300m

Race summary

A brilliant ride from Jason Whiting has delivered a first stakes success for the David Harrison-trained Cryptic Love (My Admiration) in the Listed Pinjarra Classic.

Whiting cut through along the rail in the straight to surge through and claim the favourite and stablemate Gemma's Son (Snippetson), before seeing off a late charge from fellow outsider Western Temple (Dream Ahead {USA}) and score in a thrilling finish. Son Of A God (Playing God) grabbed third.

It is the eighth win of the 5-year-old mare's career and takes her prizemoney beyond $500,000.

Pedigree notes

Cryptic Love was a $30,000 purchase for Harrison at the 2017 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale from the draft of Western Breeders Alliance.

She is a sister to R. Listed Magic Millions Pinjarra 3YO Trophy winner Cryptic Wonder out of Abitcryptic (Bletchley Park {Ire}). She in turn is a daughter of Punchelot (Bellotto {Ire}), the half-sister to stakes performed Street Talk (Honour And Glory {USA}) and Happy Knockout (Happy Giggle).

Abitcryptic has a yearling brother to Cryptic Love and foaled a colt by Oratorio last spring.

Cryptic Love joins her brother as the two stakes winners by Westbury Park Stud stallion My Admiration.
