Looking Ahead - March 11

3 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

On Thursday, we are tracking a trio of promising fillies, including one looking for a hat-trick of wins for Grant Attard at Goulburn, another who is a half-sister to an Australian Derby winner, and one who is a out of a G1 Coolmore Classic victress.

Goulburn, Race 2, 2.25pm AEDT, Goulburn Soldiers Club Class 2 H. $22,000, 1000m

Majestic Shot (Shooting To Win) was a dominant winner at her two starts to date at Orange and Port Macquarie last October, finishing strongly over 1000 metres at the second of those. She has warmed up for her return to racing with a couple of impressive trial wins, edging out Group winner Easy Eddie (Super Easy {NZ}) at Gosford.

She was an $11,000 purchase for Grand Syndicates and John Price at the 2019 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale from the draft of Ashleigh Thoroughbreds. She is a half-sister to three winners, Rainy Day Woman (I Am Invincible), Battle Anthem (I Am Invincible) and Rothman (Rothesay), out of the unraced Viscount mare Curtsey. Curtsey is a daughter of the stakes winner Greeting (Canny Lad), who also produced a trio of stakes performers in Sampeah (Exceed And Excel), Parthian (Lonhro) and Hassle (Zabeel {NZ}).

Too Much Lippy (More Than Ready {USA}) carries substantial reputation to the track, being a half-sister to G1 Australian Derby winner Levendi (Pierro) and Group 3 winner Marcel From Madrid (Sepoy) and a three-quarter sister to stakes winner Wu Gok (Sebring). She was purchased for $550,000 by Strawberry Hill Stud at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Twin Hills Stud.

Trainers Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou assumed training duties for her just recently and interestingly haven't given her a trial this time in. She had several trials when under the eye of Chris Waller. Given her breeding, she may appreciate more distance in time, but she is one worth following this campaign.

Pakenham, Race 2, 6.30pm AEDT, Watch Live On Sportsbet 3YO Mdn, $35,000, 1200m

The Motley Fool (Sebring) had one run as a 2-year-old, where she finished second in a Geelong maiden and returns here for Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr, having won a jump-out earlier this year at Sandown. She looks a filly that won't be long breaking her maiden status.

A homebred for Gerry Harvey, she is very well-related, being a half-sister to the multiple stakes winner Libertini (I Am Invincible) and two other winners. Their dam is the G1 Coolmore Classic winner Aloha (Encosta De Lago) and the extended family includes Group 1 winners Seabrook (Hinchinbrook) and Malaguerra (Magnus).
