Rosemont Stud’s 2021 stallion roster has been boosted with the successful pursuit of Street Boss’ (USA) precocious son Hanseatic after an agreement was reached to purchase the colt from breeder Godolphin.
In what Rosemont Principal Anthony Mithen initially thought would be a "pie in the sky exercise", negotiations to secure Hanseatic came to fruition, and he will begin the second stage of his career alongside Shamus Award, Starspangledbanner, Strasbourg, Starcraft (NZ) and Nostradamus.
“I’m literally pinching myself and thankful to (form expert) Deane Lester for giving me the nudge along. When he mentioned Hanseatic to me I said that’s in the way too hard basket,” Mithen said.
“He was a Godolphin horse and I thought a horse of his quality and calibre would be standing at one of their farms, but we found something could be done. We have a good relationship with Godolphin and were able to navigate our way to a successful outcome for Godolphin and for us.”

Big race prospects
While the acquisition of Hanseatic is a hard act to follow, Saturday could spark further Rosemont celebrations with the farm sharing in the ownership of G1 Coolmore Classic contenders All Saints’ Eve (NZ) (Sacred Falls {NZ}) and Krone (Eurozone) and The All-Star Mile hope Mr Quickie (Shamus Award).
Trained by Tony Gollan, Krone is the last-start winner of the G2 Guy Walter S. while All Saints’ Eve, who was bred with co-owner Waikato Stud, was third in the G3 Liverpool City Cup for John O’Shea at her lead-up outing.
“I think All Saints’ Eve might be a fraction better chance. She’s a massive chance and if I could twist Mark Chittick’s arm to send her to Hanseatic and not Savabeel - A, I would be doing a good job and B, I would be very pleased,” Mithen said.
“We have got some lovely mares that we are going to support Hanseatic with and do feel like the cat that got the cream. He’s exactly what we were looking for – a fast and precocious 2-year-old type of stallion for our broodmare band and for our clients.”
Mr Quickie
The Phillip Stokes-prepared Mr Quickie moved in to serious The All-Star calculations with his fast-finishing third G1 Futurity S. performance.
“If we can get him over the line we would be cart-wheeling for a week,” Mithen said.

Hanseatic, who won’t race again, won three of his nine starts including 2-year-old successes in the G3 Blue Diamond Prelude (Colts and Geldings), the Listed Blue Diamond Preview (Colts and Geldings) and the Listed Merson Cooper S. before finishing runner-up in the G1 Blue Diamond S.
This season, he was also runner-up for trainers Anthony and Sam Freedman in the G3 Blue Sapphire S.
Having unsuccessfully chased Written Tycoon’s dual Group 1-winning son Ole Kirk for stud duty, fate played a hand with Hanseatic from the same potent family.
“That’s exactly how I’m feeling and it's funny how the world works. We were down on our bumpers when we missed out on Ole Kirk and stretched the zeroes we put on the offer, but missed out.
“We went away, kicked stones for a few days and we’re on top of the world now. Hanseatic’s a beautiful, fast horse and from the same family. The great thing is we can stand him at a much more attractive fee to Victorian breeders, it’s a great result.”
Hanseatic and Ole Kirk are out of half-sisters from the family of the unbeaten champion Black Caviar (Bel Esprit) and her multiple Group 1-winning half-brother and successful sire All Too Hard.
