Looking Ahead - March 16

3 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we will aim to give you something to follow.

Today, we like a well-related filly making her first appearance at Hawkesbury where we also like the resuming chances of a past course and distance winner. At Sale, we take a closer look at an expensive colt from a well-performed 2-year-old family.

Hawkesbury, Race 2, 1.50pm AEDT, Lander Toyota 3YO H., $35,000, 1300m

Bred and raced by Sir Owen Glenn’s Go Bloodstock, My Delight (Sebring) is a sister to the multiple Group 1 winner and sire Criterion (NZ) and a half-sister to the G1 Doomben Cup winner Comin’ Through (Fastnet Rock), the G2 QTC Cup winner Varenna Miss (Redoute’s Choice) and the Listed James Carr S. winner Silently (Anabaa {USA}), who produced the South African Group 2 winner Muwaary (O’Reilly {NZ}).

The late Sebring, sire of My Delight

My Delight is a daughter of Mica’s Pride (Bite The Bullet {USA}), successful in the G3 Research S. and the family of the G3 Manfred S. winner, multiple Group 1 placegetter and sire Bull Point. Trained by Chris Waller, My Delight has enjoyed a series of quiet trials and with a pedigree that is hard to ignore, she looks worthy of support.

Hawkesbury, Race 4, 3.05pm AEDT, Pink Finss Charity H., $35,000, 1000m

Zanzidance (Deep Field) makes a fresh start here for trainer Mark Newnham and she made a good impression last preparation with an early winning strike over this course and distance. The filly hasn’t raced since late October, but a trial win at Rosehill last month indicated she was in fine fettle to resume.

Zanzidance as a yearling

Offered by Bhima Thoroughbreds at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Zanzidance was purchased for $320,000 by James Bester Bloodstock and Eric Lucas. She is a half-sister to the winner and Group 3 performer Rome (Pierro) and their dam Dance Card (Exceed And Excel) is a half-sister to the G3 Southern Cross S. winner Kaepernick (Fastnet Rock) with the G1 Robert Sangster S. winner Spright (Hinchinbrook) standing out on the pedigree page.

Sale, Race 1, 1.30pm AEDT, Maffra Cup Day Plate, $35,000, 1212m

Power Legend (Pierro) has a pedigree to be proud of and the youngster sold accordingly at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale where trainer John Sadler went to $425,000 to purchase him out of the draft of Kenmore Lodge. He has drawn well (barrier four) and rider Michael Dee will give him every opportunity to shine on debut.

Power Legend as a yearling

The colt is a son of the Snitzel mare Noble Quality and she is a half-sister to Our Joan Of Arc (Beautiful Crown {USA}), who was a smart 2-year-old who won the G3 Maribyrnong Plate and the Listed Gimcrack S. Her dam Bright Heroine (Bluebird {USA}) was also stakes-placed as a juvenile and the family of the G3 Carbine Club S. winner Inspire (Rory’s Jester).
