Looking Ahead - March 19

3 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we will aim to give you something to follow.

On Friday, a Redoute's Choice filly out of a Group 1-winning family debuts at Kyneton, while at Moonee Valley, a well-credentialled Snitzel colt makes his bow, and Peter Moody steps up to the challenge for a promising daughter of Pierro.

As the name would suggest, Scissors (Redoute’s Choice) is a blood sister to multiple Group winner and now French-based stallion Scissor Kick. Her dam, Piste Noire (USA) (Diesis {GB}) is a sister to Grade 2 winner and G1 Dewhurst S. winner Three Valleys (USA). The third generation back is flush with international Group/Grade 1 winners including Champs Elysees (GB).

She was purchased by Ballymore Stables/Paul Moroney Bloodstock for $300,000 from the 2019 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. Her breeder GSA Bloodstock retained an interest and she races in the red and white stripes of Pinecliff Racing.

Scissors jumped out well at Flemington recently finishing alongside some more experienced rivals and she looks like she won’t be too long breaking her maiden.

Taborca (Snitzel) was a $500,000 purchase for Chris Waller and Mulcaster Bloodstock at the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Vinery Stud and makes his debut here for Waller. He finished off quite well when second in a recent Flemington jump-out, albeit a long way behind the winner, Enuff Already (Rich Enuff), one of his rivals in this race.

He is well-related, being a three-quarter brother to Group 3 winner Very Tempting (Redoute's Choice) and a half-brother to Group 3 winner and Group 1 placegetter Outrageous (All Too Hard) and in-form WA galloper Temptacion (All Too Hard). Their dam Fit And Ready (More Than Ready {USA}) is a half-sister to G1 Golden Slipper S. winner Catbird and Group 3 winner Danbird (Danehill {USA}) out of the stakes winner Fitting (Marscay).

The Peter Moody-trained Vidiano (Pierro) was very impressive when returning from a spell to break her maiden at Pakenham last time out, and shapes as progressive enough to handle the rise to stakes company here at just her fourth start.

She was a NZ$200,000 buy by Murray Baker at the 2019 New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale, before finding her way back to Australia. Her dam Bulle De Champagne (Ire) (Hurricane Run {Ire}), is a half-sister to Contributer (Ire), who was a multiple Group 1 winner for Godolphin in Australia before heading to Mapperley Stud to stand.
