Looking Ahead - March 31

3 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we will aim to give you something to follow.

Today, we are expecting an expensive colt with solid trial form to make a good debut at Warwick Farm. At Ladbrokes Park, we are expecting a 2-year-old to improve with a placed run under his belt and also like the chances of a last-start winner from a successful family.

The Chris Waller-prepared Turgenev (I Am Invincible) has trialled three times in the lead-up to his debut and has improved with each outing. He was placed at Rosehill and Hawkesbury before winning on the synthetic track at Warwick Farm and James McDonald will ride him from a handy gate (six).

The colt was offered by breeder Yulong at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale where he was purchased by Colm Santry Bloodstock for $500,000. He is a son of the G2 Moonee Valley Fillies’ Classic winner Gypsy Diamond (Not A Single Doubt), also twice successful at Group 3 level and runner-up in the G1 Queen of the Turf S. It is also the family of this season’s G3 Maribyrnong Plate winner Finance Tycoon (Written Tycoon).

Zerelle (Snitzel) is out of the unraced Margaery Tyrell (Street Cry {Ire}) and is a half-sister to the dual Listed winner Regrowth (Unbridled’s Song {USA}). Their dam True Blonde (Naturalism) won the Listed Vic Health H. and is a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner and successful sire Snippets and the family of another outstanding stallion in Not A Single Doubt.

Bred by Arrowfield Stud and Planette Thoroughbreds, Zerelle is trained by Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young and off the back of a trial success finished a close third on debut at Sale. The colt went back from a wide gate and made ground well and from an inside barrier here (three), will be able to stay closer to the action and looks a strong chance in Mark Zahra’s hands.

Limited Vision (Lonhro) was consigned to the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale by Three Bridges Thoroughbreds and was knocked down to Anthony Freedman Racing and Blue Sky Bloodstock for $300,000. He is the first foal of the G2 Queen of the South S. winner Into The Mist (Redoute’s Choice).

She is a half-sister to Shrouded In Mist (Exceed And Excel), also a winner of the Queen of the South, and their dam De Lago Mist (Encosta De Lago) claimed an edition of the G2 VRC Sires’ Produce S. Limited Vision was fifth on debut in the spring and then showed a glimpse of the family ability when he bolted in first-up at Sale. The ease of that win suggested he can make his presence felt in stronger company.
