An enhanced version of the former Scone Yearling Sale, the May Sale presents buyers with a final opportunity to purchase a quality yearling in New South Wales before the breeding stock sales take centre stage.

The Sale begins a week-long festival of auctions at Riverside, which also includes the Australian Weanling Sale next Thursday, the Chairman’s Sale on Friday and the Australian Broodmare Sale on May 9.

In total, 356 yearlings will go under the hammer at the HTBA Sale and of those, 334 are BOBS eligible.

“We had the Sale at Riverside in 2020 due to the pandemic and it went really well and allowed us to have the horses at a world-class complex and in closer proximity to a larger percentage of the buying bench,” Inglis General Manager Bloodstock Sales and Marketing, Sebastian Hutch, said.

“The decision was made with the support of the majority of vendors that we would facilitate the Sale at Riverside here again.”

Vendors and breeders have responded positively to the move with a full house as far as the number of youngsters to be sold.

“The catalogue has basically doubled in size and there’s a lot of interest around the complex,” Hutch said. “It’s positive for vendors and we’re pleased with the catalogue and the Sale produces plenty of quality winners.”

Among the leading lights to have come out of the auction includes the G1 Winterbottom S. winner Voodoo Lad (I Am Invincible), reigning $1 million Inglis Sprint winner Rocketing By (So You Think {NZ}) and Listed Brian Crowley S. winner The Bopper (Nicconi).

“The Sale has produced plenty of winners and there are a solid number of well-credentialled horses on the complex so we’re very happy and are looking forward to the Sale,” Hutch said.
