Listed, Harvey Norman 2021 Wagga Wagga Gold Cup, $200,000, 2000m

Race summary

Inverloch (Fastnet Rock) led all the way here en route to a soft 0.5l victory. The Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young-trained gelding was quick into stride under Matthew Cahill and was left alone to dictate the tempo out in front. Cahill picked up the speed from the 600-metre mark and proceeded to work his mount through his gears, prior to skipping clear on straightening and grinding out a hard-fought victory.

The Mark Newnham-trained Spirit Ridge (Ire) (Nathaniel {Ire}) savaged the line late under the top weight of 60kgs to nab Yonkers (USA) (Medgalia D’Oro {USA}) for second, while Paths Of Glory (Mastercraftsman {Ire}) snuck up the inside rail and could only settle for fourth.

Pedigree notes

Bred by Ideal Syndicate and purchased by OTI Racing directly from Coolmore Stud, Inverloch is the second foal out of a half-sister to four-time Group 1 winner and Champion Sire Camelot (GB). Inverloch himself is a half-brother to Group 3 and Listed-placed galloper Harpocrates (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}).

His sire Fastnet Rock needs no introduction, the Champion Sire is responsible for multiple Group 1-winning superstars Atlantic Jewel, Merchant Navy and Mosheen.
