The rich cultural heritage and social significance of thoroughbred horse racing in New Zealand has been recorded for more than 175 years. The New Zealand racing industry is now responsible for generating $1.6 billion in value-added contribution to the New Zealand economy and over 14,000 full time equivalent jobs. Racecourses are an important part of the social fabric of many local communities, and last year, over 600,000 attendances were recorded at New Zealand race meetings.
R.A.C.E. (Inc) is the trading name for Racing at Awapuni and Trentham Combined Enterprise Incorporated. RACE (Inc) is an Incorporated Society, formed in July 2002 as the umbrella corporate entity for the Awapuni Partnership of Racing Clubs: Manawatu Racing Club (Inc), Marton Jockey Club (Inc), Feilding Jockey Club (Inc), Rangitikei Racing Club (Inc), The Wellington Racing Club joined the Group in October 2005.
R.A.C.E. business activities are across four main functions; Thoroughbred Racing Venue, Thoroughbred Training Centre, Events & Catering and Property Development & Facilities Management. This is a superb and unique opportunity for a new Chief Executive.
Key responsibilities include:
• Successfully managing a diverse range of stakeholder relationships
• Generating, developing and maintaining revenue streams
• Ensuring financial control, compliance and reporting
• Driving high-performance outcomes while delivering an exceptional experience
• Promoting participation at all levels and delivering high-quality events
• Effectively managing the organisations resources; assets and facilities
• Providing strong, high performing and inclusive leadership
• Leading community engagement with a positive, proactive and effective approach
Key attributes and skills required include:
• Proven general management skills gained from either a GM/CEO role or a senior management position of a large organisation
• Proven business or commercial experience and strategic agility
• Proven communication, public speaking, and negotiation skills
• Proven leadership and people management experience
• Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a geographically diverse area
• Tertiary qualifications in business/management (or a related field) are highly desirable
