Newhaven Park, in the New South Wales rural district of Boorowa, has announced that Super One, the speedy son of I Am Invincible, will relocate from Newgate Farm to its 2021 stallion roster, joining both Cool Aza Beel (NZ) and Xtravagant (NZ) for the upcoming season.

The sire will stand at a fee of $16,500 (inc GST).

Super One was retired from the track in May 2016, and stood five seasons at Newgate. He covered substantial books of up to 169 each season in that time, and among his notable progeny is One Lotto, who was third in the Listed Tasmanian Guineas.

The stallion has had 82 runners from his two crops of running age, of which 32 have proved winners.

He's had metro winners Miss Divine Em and Another One, as well as Hong Kong winner Gluck Racer, and he provides a substantial speed option to Newhaven Park’s season roster.

Super by name

Super One raced through 2015 in Singapore for trainer Lee Freedman, winning four high-profile starts for the Australian ex-pat. They included the Listed Gold Horseshoe over 1200 metres, and the Listed Juvenile Championship over the same course.

Super One returned to Australia thereafter, and won the G3 D C MacKay S. at Morphettville, wrapping up a lifetime career of eight starts for five wins and a second.

Freedman described the colt as the fastest entire he had ever trained.

“He’s very much like his father,” the trainer said at the time of the colt’s retirement. “I Am Invincible was essentially a 1000 metre to 1200 metre horse, but he’s doing such a great job at stud.”

Winning thoroughbreds

Super One heads to Newhaven Park in a partnership arrangement with Denys Chan’s All Winning Thoroughbreds. Chan is the founder and CEO of Hong Kong’s bloodstock agency Golden River Investment Ltd., and he’s an astute judge.

He purchased the Capitalist half-sister to Golden Sixty (Medaglia D'Oro {USA}) at this year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for $425,000, and at the same Sale he bought the $600,000 half-sister to stakes winner Irukandji (General Nediym).

Newhaven Park studmaster John Kelly said he was pleased to be in partnership with Chan.

“It’s terrific that we have the relationship with All Winning Thoroughbreds, and we’re very pleased to stand Super One for them,” Kelly said. “He’s arrived at Newhaven already. He’s a lovely horse with a beautiful nature, and we look forward to seeing how he goes.”
