In the wake of Victoria’s current COVID situation, Inglis has readdressed its scheduling of the 2021 Great Southern Sale, pushing the Sale back three weeks from its original dates in mid-June. The Sale will now take place on Sunday, July 4 and Monday, July 5 at Oaklands Junction.

The announcement was made on Tuesday, with concerns still emerging from Victoria about the state's lockdown. While the daily COVID numbers out of Victoria are still in single digits, the overall figure for active cases in the state was 63 on Tuesday.

“We are in regular contact with relevant authorities, and will continue to be as the situation unfolds,” said Sebastian Hutch, Inglis General Manager of Bloodstock Sales and Marketing. “Our preference is to try and have as many buyers as possible safely attend the Sale, in particular interstate visitors, while respecting the desire of vendors to offer their stock in as timely and convenient a fashion as possible.”

Hutch added that he hopes the steps taken at a state level to contain the COVID situation will be enough to resume normal trade, as has been the case with previous outbreaks in the last few months.

The Great Southern Sale has long been a source of excellent success on the racetrack.

Its weanling graduates include G1 Lightning S. winner Gytrash (Lope De Vega {Ire}), two-time Group 1-winning mare Montefilia (Kermadec {NZ}), the mighty Behemoth (All Too Hard), winner of two Group 1s and four other stakes races, and recent Group 1-winning New Zealand colt On The Bubbles (Brazen Beau).

The Sale has also unearthed the dams of Behemoth, Extra Brut (Domesday), Scales Of Justice (Not A Single Doubt) and Finance Tycoon (Written Tycoon).

Supplementary entries for the Sale remain open until 5pm AEST on Monday, June 21.

Digital platform charges on

With the Great Southern Sale still a few weeks away, Inglis is looking forward to a bumper edition of its digital selling platform, with the Inglis Digital June (Early) Online Sale promising to be one of the best ever in respect to breeding stock.

The catalogue, which remains open to entries until 11.59pm AEST on Wednesday night, can already boast some significant firepower, beginning with stakes winner Members Joy (Hussonet {USA}), who won the Listed Cap D’Antibes S. in 2012.

She is being offered in foal to Zoustar, and is already the dam of two-time Group 2 winner Pure Elation (I Am Invincible).

Additionally, the Sale will offer Bonita Aurelia (NZ) (Sweynesse), who was a Group 3-winning juvenile in New Zealand and is being sold as a racing or breeding prospect.

There will also be Logan’s Choice (Redoute’s Choice), the dam of three-time stakes winner Vanna Girl (Husson {Arg}), and the well-performed mare Malahide (Shamus Award), who carries a close pedigree to star sprinter Haut Brion Her (Zoustar).

At this stage, the Sale will also feature Omniscient (Exceed And Excel), the dam of exciting juvenile filly Ashema (I Am Invincible), while a share in history-making stallion Extreme Choice will also be offered.

“We are having another fantastic year with the Digital platform, and the quality of stock on offer is consistently at a very high level now,” said Nick Melmeth, Inglis Digital’s Business Manager. “It’s evident that both vendors and buyers have real confidence in the platform, and it’s reflected in the results.”

Melmeth added that the platform has produced the winners of close to 900 races in Australia this year alone.

“Which is quite extraordinary, and something we take pride and enjoyment from,” he said. “We are really excited by how the June (Early) catalogue is shaping. The quality of some of the breeding stock in particular is outstanding, and merits attention from any investor who is serious about buying quality breeding stock.”

The Inglis Digital June (Early) Online Sale catalogue will be available for bidding from this Friday, June 4.
