G3 Winx Guineas, $175,000, 1600m

Race summary

Our Playboy (Sebring) secured his second stakes success, winning the G3 Winx Guineas in brilliant fashion, racing away to win by 5.8l.

The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr-trained 3-year-old had been winless since last August, but getting up to the 1600 metres for the first time, he relished the softer conditions, powering away to an emphatic win from Dzsenifer (Scissor Kick), with Not An Option (Not A Single Doubt) in third.

It’s his fourth win from 14 starts, with the victory taking his prizemoney to close to $300,000.

Pedigree notes

Our Playboy was a $210,000 purchase from the draft of his breeders Widden Stud at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. He is one of 69 stakes winners for the late Widden stallion, Sebring.

He is one of only two of the progeny of the unraced Mischief Night (Shamardal {USA}) to yet get to the track, the other being Set To Success (Reset), who has only had one start. She also has a 2-year-old named Royal Song (Your Song), who is with Hawkesbury trainer David Moore, as well as a yearling colt by Pierro. She lost a colt by Capitalist last year and then missed to Pierro.

She is a half-sister to the G1 All Aged S. winner and Aquis sire Pierata and the G3 Skyline S. winner Ashokan (More Than Ready {USA}). They are out of the former quality race mare November Flight (Flying Spur), who won seven races including the G3 Millie Fox S.

Bred by Hobartville Stud, Mischief Night was a $300,000 yearling purchase by Darley, before being sold to Widden Stud for $85,000 in 2016. Three years later, she was purchased by Hollymount Stud for $200,000 and her Pierro colt sold for $450,000 at this year's Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale to the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

Listed TAB Glasshouse H., $175,000, 1400m

Race summary

King Of Hastings (Ilovethiscity) has been rewarded with his first stakes success, proving too strong for his rivals in the Listed Glasshouse H. at the Sunshine Coast.

The 4-year-old Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained gelding, who had been stakes-placed before, was ridden outside the speed by Taylor Marshall and from there was able to control the tempo and show enough of a kick to defeat Charleise (Foxwedge) by 0.8l with Desert Lord (High Chaparral {Ire}) finishing well for third, another 0.3l away.

It was King Of Hastings' seventh win in his 19-start career and takes his prizemoney to over $720,000.

Pedigree notes

King Of Hastings becomes the fifth stakes winner for Noor Elaine Farm-based Ilovethiscity, who served his biggest-ever book of 124 mares last year.

Bred by Chris Rentessis, King Of Hastings is out of Handcut (Danerich), who has also produced his metropolitan-winning brother Appalachian. She also has a 3-year-old by O'Lonhro, called Red Cut Rock, who has been placed once in his two starts as well as two fillies, a yearling and weanling, by Ilovethiscity. She visited the same stallion again last year.

Handcut is out of Pentiara (NZ) (Pentire {GB}), who is a half-sister to the G1 Adelaide Cup winner The A Train (NZ) (Blues Traveller {Ire}).

Listed Allchin Airconditioning & Refrigeration Caloundra Cup, $175,000, 2400m

Race summary

Stockman (NZ) (Tavistock {NZ}) claimed his second career stakes victory and his sixth career win in total, in edging out Cellarmaid (Husson {Arg}) to win the Listed Caloundra Cup.

The Joseph Pride-trained 4-year-old, a winner of the Listed McKell Cup at his last start, tracked the speed and surged through along the inside to assume control of the race and defeat Cellarmaid, with Happy Go Plucky (Pluck {USA}) finishing in third.

He has now won over $413,000 in prizemoney in a 22-start career.

Pedigree notes

Bred by Sir Patrick and Justine, Lady Hogan, Stockman was a NZ$175,000 2018 New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale purchase by Proven Thoroughbreds and John Thompson Racing via the draft of Cambridge Stud.

He is the 11th and final foal out of Group 2 winner Crimson (NZ) (Zabeel {NZ}), making him a half-brother to G1 VRC Oaks runner-up Miss Scarlatti (NZ) (Stravinsky {USA}) and dual New Zealand Group 2 winner Abidewithme (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice).

Crimson is a half-sister to G1 Victoria Derby winner Omnicorp (NZ) (Grosvenor {NZ}) as well dual Australian Group 2 winner Pharostan (NZ) (Imposing).

Stockman’s late sire Tavistock (NZ) has had 10 stakes winners in Australia this season, plus another two in New Zealand.
