Peters' pair join O’Brien

Prominent Western Australian owner/breeder Bob Peters has elected to place talented duo Superstorm (Sebring) and Inspirational Girl (NZ) (Reliable Man {GB}) in the care of Barwon Heads-based trainer Danny O’Brien.

Peters said the decision to remove the pair from the Grant and Alana Williams stable was based on the need for two team members being required to travel over from WA with the pair for the entirety of their spring campaigns.

“Danny has a similar situation to us and has established the setup and a routine which our horses should fit into. He is very happy to have them,” Peters told Racing.com.

Udyta back on track

Trainer Udyta Clarke hasn’t ruled out the possibility of returning to the training ranks after attending Cranbourne trackwork on Monday.

Clarke, 73, has been sidelined for the best part of seven months after she nearly died from a serious brain bleed.

"I renewed my trainer's licence, it came in the mail this week and I’ll see what I'm like in three or four months,” Clarke told Racing.com.

"Whether I want to go back to training, we'll see, but I'd need to get better and I feel like I'm jumping over the moon. I've just improved and improved and I'm feeling so much better now than what I was when I first came home from hospital."

Moor return imminent

Victorian-based jockey Daniel Moor is expected to make a return to the riding ranks either this Friday or Saturday.

Moor told Racing.com on Tuesday that he has fully recovered from fractured ribs suffered in a fall at Swan Hill in June, which led to him spending a night in hospital.

He said which day he returns will be dependent on the placement of his current bookings.

Options open for Converge

Co-trainer Adrian Bott has confirmed that Group 1-winning juvenile Converge (Frankel {GB}) could press on towards the G1 Cox Plate or G1 Victoria Derby after following a traditional path towards the G1 Caulfield Guineas in the early part of the spring.

Bott, who trains in partnership with Gai Waterhouse, told RSN927 that the high-class gelding will resume in the G2 Run To The Rose before contesting the G1 Golden Rose in preparation for the 1600 metre Caulfield contest.

Slotholder seeking out Starman

The Daily Telegraph has reported that a slotholder for The Everest has approached connections of the Ed Walker-trained Starman (GB) (Dutch Art {GB}) to determine their level of interest in setting the 4-year-old for the $15 million Randwick sprint feature.

Starman, a winner of five of his six starts, produced a superb effort under Group 1-winning hoop Tom Marquand to defeat some of Europe’s best sprinters in the prestigious G1 1 July Cup at Newmarket last Weekend.

Four runners have already been confirmed by current The Everest slotholders, which leaves eight vacant starting positions held by Godolphin, Coolmore, Aquis, The Star/Arrowfield, Yulong, Bon Ho and James Harron and James Kennedy.

Gollan fined

Leading Queensland-based trainer Tony Gollan has been fined $5000 by stewards for presenting five of his horses, including stable star Vega One (Lope De Vega {Ire}), at official trials on April 13 with the banned diuretic Frusemidem in their systems.

Gollan pleaded guilty to all five charges after the substance was detected in Graff’s (Star Witness) urine, Get Stuck In (Lucas Cranach {Ger}), Baller (High Chaparral {Ire}), Just Orm (Falvelon) and Vega One’s blood samples.

“In determining an appropriate penalty, stewards acknowledged Mr Gollan’s forthright evidence and guilty plea. Stewards were also mindful of similar penalty precedents and the negative impact such breaches have on the image of racing,” a Queensland Racing Integrity Commission stewards’ report reads.

Promising juvenile sold

Promising New Zealand-based juvenile Atullibigeal (NZ) (Street Boss {USA}) has been sold to Hong Kong for a substantial undisclosed figure.

Trainer Carl Henderson said the Listed-winning gelding was being targeted towards the G1 New Zealand Derby.

“I said to one of the owners I don’t know how I feel about it. You don’t sell horses for this sort of money very often and, while it is great to see the money in the bank, it will be hard to see him go,” Henderson told NZ News Desk.

Stakes winner tops the lot

Stakes winner Front Run The Fed (USA) (Fed Biz {USA}), topped the Fasig-Tipton Horses of Racing Age Sale on Monday after being knocked down to George Sharp for US$440,000 (AU$587,996) off a third-placed performance in the G3 Poker S.

Recent Iowa Derby winner Stilleto Boy (USA) (Shackleford {USA}), was the second-best result of the Sale, after selling to Steve Moger for US$420,000 (AU$561,269).

“The horse was the best in the Sale, bar none. This one vetted out perfectly and it showed in the price he brought. We’re a little nervous, but pretty happy,” Sharp told TDN America.

A total of 79 racehorses changed hands on Monday for a gross of US$5,905,500 (AU$7,891,844) at an average of US$74,753 (AU$99,896) and a median of US$50,000 (AU$66,817).

Casino Prince mare heads Sale

For the first time this year, the Horses of Racing Age Sale was preceded by the Fasig-Tipton July Breeding Stock Sale and it didn’t disappoint with 4-year-old mare Jeweled Princess (USA) (Casino Prince {USA}), selling to Stoneriggs Farm for US$225,000 (AU$300,679).

Jeweled Princess is a half-sister to the stakes-winning Miss Brazil (USA) (Palace Malice {USA}) and was consigned by Gainesway.

“It seems if you have something of quality by some of the top first-crop sires right now, they’re going to buy them. It doesn’t matter if it’s now or November,” Brian Graves of Gainesway told TDN America.

A total of 44 mares went under the hammer for a combined royal of US$2.012 million (AU$2,688,746) at an average of US$45,727 (AU$61,107) and at a median of US$31,000 (AU$41,427).
