The colt by Lord Kanaloa is headed to Danox Co Ltd.

The price of ¥370 million surpasses the ¥210 million (AU$2.54 million) paid for Yankee Rose's first foal, a filly by Deep Impact (Jpn) in 2019.

A filly out of the G1 VRC Oaks winner, Kirramosa (NZ) (Alamosa {NZ}) also sold on the second day of the Sale.

A Kizuna (Jpn) colt achieved the day's highest price of ¥410 million (AU$4.97 million).

Colts by Frankel (GB) and Justify (USA) also sold for prices in excess of ¥100 million (AU$1.21 million).

Danox doubles down on Australian connection

Danox Co Ltd, which paid ¥165 million, or just over AU$2 million, for a yearling by Heart's Cry (Jpn) from the G1 Golden Slipper S. winner She Will Reign (Manhattan Rain) on Monday, backed up its penchant for the progeny of Australian mares by going for well over twice as much for the third foal out of the G1 ATC Sires' Produce S. and Spring Champion S. winner Yankee Rose.

Danox Co Ltd, backed by software executive Masahiro Noda, race horses under the 'Danon' name and have had international Group 1 winners such as Danon Smash (Jpn) (Lord Kanaloa {Jpn}) and Danon Premium (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) in its red and white colours.

The opening bid on the colt was ¥300 million (AU$3.63 million), before he was finally knocked down for ¥370 million (AU$4.48 million).

The price is the highest-ever paid for a foal or a yearling out of an Australian-bred mare at the JRHA Sale, and sits up with one of the best international results of recent times in that regard. At the Keeneland September Yearling Sale in 2019, a colt by Curlin (USA) out of the Australian-bred, New Zealand Group 1 winner Bounding (Lonhro) sold to Godolphin for US$4.1 million (AU$5.48 million).

Tuesday's result also surpasses the ¥210 million (AU$2.54 million) paid for Yankee Rose's first foal, a filly by Deep Impact (Jpn) at the 2019 JRHA Select Sale. That filly is now a 2-year-old named Romneya (Jpn) and is yet to race, while Yankee Rose also has a Duramente (Jpn) yearling filly.

It's a simply amazing rise to prominence for Yankee Rose, who cost Darby Racing just $10,000 from the Widden Stud draft at the 2015 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

Her pedigree wasn't without recommendation at that point given her dam, Condesaar (Xaar {USA}) is a half-sister to the G1 New Zealand Derby winner Redoute's Dancer (Redoute's Choice) and a granddaughter of the Listed winner and G1 Irish Oaks placegetter Condessa (Ire) (Condorcet {Fr}) and she added to the family considerably with her own racetrack performances.

The pedigree has also received a recent boost in Australia through Yankee Rose's Group 3-winning half-sister Miravalle (Redoute's Choice), as well as the triple stakes winning deeds of Isotope (Deep Field), who is out of another half-sister, Great Dansaar (Choisir).

Trained by David Vandyke, Yankee Rose won her first two starts and then finished second, behind Capitalist, in her third start in the G1 Golden Slipper S. She then won the G1 Sires' Produce S. by a clear margin.

As a 3-year-old, she would win the Spring Champion S. and run third behind Winx (Street Cry {Ire}) in the 2016 G1 Cox Plate. She would only have two more starts before being retired after being purchased by Northern Farm in a deal estimated to be worth seven figures.

Her Japanese owners at Northern Farm, who also purchased She Will Reign in a similar price range, have recovered that and more through her first two foals through the ring.

Aussie form stacks up

In another result with Australasian interest, Hip 369, a filly foal by one-time Arrowfield Stud shuttler Real Steel (Jpn) out of the G1 VRC Oaks winner Kirramosa (NZ) (Alamosa {NZ}), who was also offered by Northern Farm, secured a ¥30 million (AU$363,133) pricetag to Kazutaka Hosaka.

Kirramosa, a granddaughter of Group 1 winner Olga's Pal (NZ) (Straight Strike {USA}), has already produced one winner in Japan in Admire Mimosa (Jpn) (Heart's Cry {Jpn}).

The highest price of the day was the ¥410 million (AU$4.97 million) that Yoshihisa Ozasa spent on Hip 428, the colt by Kizuna (Jpn) out of the German Group 2 winner Selkis (Ger) (Monsun {Ger}).

The colt's dam has already produced the Listed winner and G1 Satsuki Sho runner-up Velox (Jpn) (Just A Way {Jpn}).

The third-highest price on the day was the ¥280 million (AU$3.39 million) paid for Hip 361 a colt by Heart's Cry (Jpn) out of Loves Only Me (USA) (Storm Cat {USA}), another offered by Northern Farm.

Loves Only Me is the dam of Real Steel, as well as G1 Japanese Oaks winner Loves Only You (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}), making this colt, who was purchased by Miki Masahiro, a half-brother to that pair, with the family also including Kingmambo (USA).

The sole Frankel (GB) foal on offer, Hip 329, was purchased by Thoroughbred Club Lion Co Ltd for ¥240 million (AU$2.91 million). The colt, another from Northern Farm, is from the G1 Las Virgenes S. winner Callback (USA) (Street Sense {USA}).

There was also one offering from Coolmore shuttler Justify's (USA) second Northern Hemisphere crop, Hip 344, a colt out of G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Caledonia Road (USA) (Quality Road {USA}), who was secured by Masahiro for ¥135 million (AU$1.63 million).

A colt by Arrowfield Stud shuttle stallion Maurice (Jpn) also achieved a big price, with Hip 388, a colt out of multiple Grade 1 winner, Photo Call (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), selling for ¥130 million (AU$157,360).

There was also a colt foal by Darley's Champion Australian stallion Lonhro on offer. Hip 427 was purchased by Capital System Co Ltd for ¥42 million (AU$508,000).

Overall, there were 213 foals sold for a total of ¥10,923,000,000 (AU$132.4 million) at an average of ¥51,281,690 (AU$621,523) and a median of ¥33,000,000 (AU$399,953).
