Racing NSW buys regal thoroughbred facility

Racing New South Wales has been confirmed as the buyer of Bong Bong Farm, a lavishly-developed thoroughbred facility that was home to Paul and Angela Fudge’s Waratah Thoroughbreds’ operation.

The 97.5ha property will become part of Racing NSW’s plan for additional training centres close to Randwick, Rosehill and Warwick Farm, which are struggling to cope with demand and a lengthy waiting list of trainers seeking boxes.

Bong Bong Farm in the NSW Southern Highlands, is a state-of-the-art facility and its sale was forced by the ill health of Fudge. When it was first listed in April, it had a guide price of $35 million.

“I can’t tell you the price, but we have sold it and will be settled in three weeks’ time,” Inglis Rural Property Director, Jamie Inglis, said.

“Paul and Angela Fudge travelled the world some years ago and borrowed ideas from many facilities around the world to create this outstanding property.

“It is built to exacting detail, architecturally designed and it really is something else. There are two barns and you could go as far as to say that they are better and more comfortable than many houses people live in.

“Every facility that one could possibly want is there. There is a hyperbaric chamber, treadmills and an altimeter treadmill that is enclosed so you can work a horse on a treadmill at 3000 or 4000 metres above altitude.

“There are veterinary facilities and all sorts of equipment available and all safe and expertly built, it’s magnificent.

“The indoor arenas there are something else and it is world-class, no question at all.”

Interconnecting laneways and extensive post and rail fencing subdivided into 43 paddocks.

Capable of handling up to 100 horses, the property also has 61 boxes, an irrigated 1250 metre gradual incline turf and a sand training track.

Other equine features include a spa, horse walkers, parade ring and 43 paddocks with interconnecting laneways and extensive post and rail fencing.

Bong Bong Farm is made up of five properties accumulated over the years and the estate features five residences, one a four-bedroom house complete with a tennis court and pool.

Expected to appeal to both international and local buyers, the estate has a four-bedroom house with a tennis court and pool, as well as three staff houses and another residence.
