Listed winner Better Reflection (Better Than Ready) has topped the Magic Millions August Online Sale, selling to Suman Hedge for $350,000.

Better Reflection, a winner of four of her 16 starts, including the Listed Calaway Gal S. at her second start, earned $336,735 in her career for Rockhampton trainer John Wigginton.

She is now headed to the broodmare barn after Hedge won the competitive bidding war for her on the online platform.

"I'm really excited to purchase Better Reflection for a very good client," Hedge said. "We leaned heavily on Magic Millions and Kellie Bond (from Kenmore) for appraisal on the mare's physique and they were extremely helpful which gave us a lot of confidence.

"She (Better Reflection) was a fast stakes-winning 2-year-old and has no Danehill blood so we thought she ticked a lot of boxes." - Suman Hedge

Hedge said a final decision on who Better Reflection would visit in her first season at stud was yet to be made.

"We will let the dust settle before deciding on a stallion but at this stage it's likely to be either Farnan or Written Tycoon," he said.

The result was a big one for Wigginton and the other part owners, who paid $20,000 for Better Reflection at the 2018 Magic Millions March Yearling Sale from the draft of Yarramalong Park.

"All the owners are ecstatic! Over the moon. She was a great mare for us," Wigginton said.

"We paid $20,000 for her, she won $330,000 on the track and we've sold her for $350,000.

"We thought $150,000 to $250,000 would be the range she'd make, to get that sort of money is amazing. Just a great result."

The mare was consigned by Kellie Bond of Kenmore Lodge, who had confidence that Better Reflection would find her value in the market but was also surprised by the price.

“I knew being a lightly raced, beautiful-looking 2-year-old stakes winner that she would be popular, but she exceeded all expectations. The phone didn’t stop ringing with enquiries,” she said.

The second highest price of the Sale was the $82,500 paid for Arrowette (Not A Single Doubt), who was also offered by Kenmore Lodge.

The five-time winning half-sister to the Listed winner and Group 1 placegetter Jersey Lily (Catbird) was offered in foal to Capitalist and was purchased by Balmoral Park Partnership.

The highest price racehorse in the Sale was Matterhorn (NZ) (Swiss Ace), who is a lightly raced 6-year-old, who has won three of his six starts for Kris Lees.

Offered by Baramul Stud and hailing from the famous Scandinavia (Snippets)/Black Caviar (Bel Esprit) family, he was purchased by Group 1 Pty Ltd for $46,000.

The next Magic Millions Online Sale will be held from September 6 to 9.
