Colt a hot prospect

Classic options will be discussed for Forgot You (NZ) (Savabeel) in the wake of his impressive winning run in the PFD Food Services H. at Moonee Valley this afternoon.

The 3-year-old settled well back in the field off a fast pace and he unleashed with a powerhouse finish in the straight to win going away for jockey Daniel Moor.

“The speed was so hot early and he showed amazing acceleration. We’ve got him nominated for the Guineas and the Derby so we’ll have to sit down now and weigh it all up,” co-trainer Natalie Young said. “Obviously, he got the job done very well today and he is a nice horse going forward.”

Forgot You was a $330,000 Inglis Ready 2 Race Sale purchase where he was offered on behalf of Waikato Stud by Ohukia Lodge. He is out of the O’Reilly (NZ) mare Simply You (NZ), who is in foal to Super Seth and is a daughter of two-time Group 1 winner Glamour Puss (NZ).

Timely maiden win

Soldier Boy’s (NZ) (Proisir) timing was exemplary when he shed his maiden tag with victory in the Listed HS Dyke Wanganui Guineas.

While he failed to win in four appearances last term, he did place twice and finished midfield before a break in the G1 Manawatu Sires’ Produce S.

Trained by Gavin Sharrock, Soldier Boy was ridden by Kate Hercock and they came with a well-timed run in the straight to deny the well-supported Yeaboi (NZ) (Belardo {Ire}).

Posthumous stakes honours

The Chrissy Bambry Bellacontte (NZ) credited her ill-fated sire Burgundy (NZ) with a fifth individual black-type winner when she claimed the Listed O’Leary’s Fillies’ S. at Wanganui.

Placed in the Listed Castletown S. last season, she came from just off the pace for rider Sarah McNab to down the local hope Unusual Countess (NZ) (Unusual Suspect {USA}) and the favourite Ima Roca Bee (NZ) (El Roca).

Burgundy (NZ) was a Group 3-winning half-brother to the multiple Group 1 winner and sire Darci Brahma (NZ), but his tenure at Cambridge Stud was tragically cut short when he was put down in 2019 due to severe laminitis.

Jerry gets job done

The Jean Dubois-trained Jerry (Nicconi) defied his long price and a tough run to beat his older rivals in the TAB Highway at Randwick.

“He bounced only fairly and didn’t have an ounce of luck, we were three and four wide all the way,” rider James Innes Jnr said. “Full credit to the team, they’ve done a great job with him.”

Jerry has finished runner-up at Nowra when resuming and the 3-year-old showed the benefit of that outing when he held his rivals at bay on Saturday, despite veering out when clear of runners in the straight to score at better than 40 to 1.

Savabeel youngster scores

Savabeel drew first blood in the new 2-year-old season when his daughter Cincoro (NZ) landed the opening juvenile race of 2021/2022 at Wanganui.

Bred and raced by Kevin Hickman, the Stephen Autridge and Kris Shailer-trained filly sat off the pace and was too good in the run home to win the Jubee and Co Mdn.

Kahma Suitsya (NZ) (Tavistock {NZ}) finished second and Gibraltar Rising (NZ) (Almanzor {Fr}) recovered to land third money after running wide on the home bend.

Cincoro is the first foal of stakes performer Fortaleza (NZ) (Darci Brahma {NZ}), who produced a Contributer (Ire) filly last season and was then served by U S Navy Flag (USA).

Lengthy suspensions

Two jockeys have been outed for lengthy periods after pleading guilty to attending an illegal gathering in the ACT.

Jockey Billy Owen and apprentice Teaghan Martin, as well as four stablehands, have all received three-month bans for attending an illegal gathering.

The gathering at Owen’s residence eight days ago was in breach of the state’s COVID-19 regulations.

Eaton to appeal

Jess Eaton will appeal a six-week suspension handed down by Racing SA stewards for her ride on Old Time Rock (Pride Of Dubai).

On Friday, stewards charged that she failed to take all reasonable measures to ensure the horse obtained its best possible finishing position at Morphettville on August 14.

Stewards cited a lack of vigour from Eaton in the closing 100 metres when they alleged there was a gap between runners.

Frankel colt tops Sale

Gestüt Haus Ittlingen's Frankel (GB) half-brother to the G3 Hamburger Meile winner Calyxa (GB) (Pivotal {GB}) topped the Baden-Badener Auktionsgesellschaft’s September Yearling Sale in Germany when he sold to Godolphin for €350,000 (AU$555,000).

The Sale-topping Frankel (GB) x Chantra (Ger) colt

From a smaller catalogue this year, 195 horses went through the ring and though some of potential star acts were returned to their breeders, the day's clearance rate was greatly improved on recent years at 79.5 per cent, with 155 yearlings sold.

That upturn from 66.5 per cent in 2020 led to a small boost in the figures for all sectors, with the average up by five per cent at €43,448 (AU$68,900) and the turnover of €6,734,500 (AU$10.68 million) representing an improvement of four per cent.

“Of course, Frankel goes without saying. This colt was a really good walker, very athletic. He'll go back to England,” said Anthony Stroud, who signed for the top lot for Godolphin.

Expensive Astern filly wins

High-priced Astern filly Brandon’smylawyer (USA) has made a winning debut over 1000 metres at Del Mar for trainer Richard Baltas.

She sat in third spot to the turn before lengthening stride to account for her stablemate Sterling Crest (Ire) (No Nay Never {USA}).

Brandon'smylawyer was the second highest priced juvenile this season by Darley’s Astern when she sold for US$340,000 ($AU454,000) at the OBS Spring sale in April and is a granddaughter of the G1 Gamely H. winner Mea Domina (USA) (Dance Brightly {USA}).
