Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we will aim to give you something to follow.
On Saturday, we are expecting a son of Redoute’s Choice to lead off the Randwick card, while at Newcastle we believe a daughter of Written Tycoon can go one better on a debut second. At Caulfield, we’re backing a Street Boss (USA) filly to further her stakes record.
Randwick, Race 1, 11.40am AEST, TAB Highway H., $100,000, 1000m
The Stephen Jones-trained Nadaraja (Redoute’s Choice) has hardly put a foot wrong in his fledgeling career with consecutive wins on his home track at Scone following a debut second at Muswellbrook. He is a progressive 3-year-old and from barrier three and with Tim Clark in the saddle appeals as a strong chance to complete his hat-trick.
Bred and raced by Kia Ora Stud, Nadaraja is a half-brother to the multiple winners Grand Finalist (Wanted) and Sangita (Sebring) with their dam the Rock Of Gibraltar (Ire) mare National Anthem. She is a half-sister to the multiple Group 1-winning sprinter and sire Starspangledbanner and to stakes performer Gold Chant (El Moxie {USA}), dam of the G1 Thousand Guineas winner Amicus (Fastnet Rock).
Newcastle, Race 2, 1.10pm AEST, EPG Payroll & HR Plate, $35,000, 900m
Six Again (Written Tycoon) finished runner-up in her April debut for trainer David Pfeiffer and was then spelled and shifted camp to Matthew Dunn’s Warwick Farm operation. She has been given a couple of trials to ready her for her return and won the latest of them on her new home track in good style.
Written Tycoon, sire of Six Again | Standing at Yulong Stud
Bred by Supreme Thoroughbreds who have retained an ownership interest, Six Again is a half-sister to six winners including Quidnunc (Lonhro), who won the Listed Nivison S. Their dam Dorky (Grand Lodge {USA}) was also a talented performer who won twice as a 2-year-old and placed at Group 2 level in the San Domenico S., Silver Shadow S. and the Reisling Slipper Trial. Also on the pedigree page are the black-type winners Leaves Of Grass (Poet’s Voice {GB}) and Comtesse La Gran (Saxon).
Caulfield, Race 3, 1.40pm AEST, G2 Off The Track Community PG Prelude, $300,000, 1400m
Heresy (Street Boss {USA}) won the G3 David Coles S. last season and has quickly come back this term to grand form this term with placings in the G3 Quezette S. and the G3 McNeil S., in which she took on the colts and geldings. She has yet to tackle this distance, but has been running her races out strongly enough to suggest it won’t be an issue.
Trained by James Cummings for breeder Godolphin, Heresy is a daughter of the G3 Thoroughbred Breeders' S. winner Montsegur (New Approach {Ire}). She is a half-sister to the Group 3 winners Paulele (Dawn Approach {Ire}) and Tessera (Medaglia D’Oro {USA}) and the family of the multiple Group 1 winner and sire Merchant Navy.

Looking Back
We got close with Castlereagh Kid (Snitzel) finishing runner-up at Newcastle and Lafargue (Capitalist) was also second at Geelong where Fjord (Fastnet Rock) was out of the money.
