Looking Ahead - October 15

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we will aim to give you something to follow.

On Friday, we have a trio of debutantes to watch. The first one is a Spirit Of Boom filly at Ipswich, and the second two are a well-related Squamosa filly and a filly by Into Mischief (USA) who are both running at the evening meeting at Pakenham

The Tony Gollan-trained Inasec (Spirit Of Boom) should be making a relatively quick impression in her racing career given the way she has dominated in her trials this time in. She won her first trial by 4.25l, leading all the way and then put on a similar display in her second hitout, winning by 2.25l eased up.

A homebred for Eureka Stud's McAlpine family, she is out of the Listed-winning mare About Ready (More Than Ready {USA}). There are some smart horses on her pedigree page, including G1 Doncaster H. winner Soho Square (Jugah {USA}) and Group 2 winner Innovation Girl (Rubiton). The nick of Spirit Of Boom with More Than Ready (USA) mares has produced seven winners from 11 runners.

Order Of Glory (Squamosa) has had a couple of recent Flemington jump-outs for trainer Danny O'Brien and comes to the races here off a very quiet one last month where she sat at the rear of the field and picked off a few rivals late.

She is bred to have ability being a sister to Listed winner and Group 1 placegetter Order Of Command, who races in the same colours under similar ownership, headed by breeder Bill Johnston. It is the extended family of Champion Hong Kong sprinter Sacred Kingdom (Encosta De Lago) and Group 2 winner Love Of Mary (Zeditave), who is a three-quarter sister to this filly's second dam.

Robbie Griffiths and Mathew de Kock debut an interestingly bred filly in the Spendthrift colours in Madam Mayhem (Into Mischief {USA}). She is out of stakes-winning Bluegrass Cat (USA) mare Cayllano (USA), who is out of Blissful Tripp (USA) (Trippi {USA}, the stakes-placed half-sister to Grade 3 winner Blissful State (USA) (Buckaroo {USA}) and Listed winner Debbie's Bliss (USA) (Kris S. {USA}).

Champion American sire Into Mischief (USA) has had only seven runners in Australia for three winners. This filly had a trial at Cranbourne back in August where she railed through nicely but was probably not on the best ground. She certainly wasn't extended in finishing seventh there and an improved performance on her debut would certainly not shock.

Looking Back

We only had one runner go around on Thursday with our two selections at Kembla Grange both scratched. Coastal Town (NZ) (Darci Brahma {NZ}) was well-supported on debut at Warrnambool but after looming at the top of the straight could only finished sixth.
