G1 Railway S., $1,000,000, 1600m
Odds-on and he won like it, Western Empire (NZ) (Iffraaj {GB}) cruising up to his rivals with 200 metres to go and racing away to an easy win, putting a sealer on a great day for Bob and Sandra Peters.
Recording the seventh win of his 12 start career, Western Empire has been successful at stakes level on five occasions, adding this Group 1 feature to his already impressive record consisting of the G2 WA Derby, the G3 Asian Beau S., the Listed JC Roberts S. and the Listed Lex Piper S.
One of his triple Group 2-winning sire's 81 stakes winners, he is the 11th individual Group 1 winner for that former Haunui Farm shuttler who calls Dalham Hall Stud, Newmarket home.
Western Empire is another classy homebred for the Peters family who also bred and raced his G2 Perth Cup-winning dam Western Jewel (Jeune {GB}).
Recently foaling a filly by Toronado (Ire), Western Jewel has a yearling full brother to Western Empire who has been named Western Power (Iffraaj {GB}).
Also dam of the Listed Bunbury S. winner Western Temple (Dream Ahead {USA}), Western Jewel is out of the dual city winner Our Millster (Marooned {Ire}), who also produced the Listed Ranconteur S. winner Western Blaze (Hard Spun {USA}). Our Millster's dam is the G3 Strickland S. winner Timeless Action (Serheed {USA}).
Whilst Iffraaj (GB) boasts a strain of The Minstrel (Can), Western Jewel is bred on a 4 X 4 cross of that stallion's three quarter brother Nijinsky II (Can), giving Western Empire a 6 X 6 X 6 cross of the Canadian Racing Hall of Fame member Flaming Page (USA) (Bull Page {USA}).
It was a fourth Railway S. win in a row for the Peters cerise and white colours with Inspirational Girl (NZ) (Reliable Man {GB}) successful last year, Regal Power (Pierro) the year before that and Galaxy Star (Redoute's Choice) first past the post in 2018.
G2 WA Guineas, $500,000, 1600m
With this dominant performance Treasured Star (Toronado {Ire}) continued the great recent run for her Swettenham Stud-based sire and she is that dual Group 1-winning shuttler's 20th stakes winner.
A homebred for Bob and Sandra Peters who also bred her unraced dam Treasured Gift (Big Brown {USA}), Treasured Star is a half-sister to the lightly-raced winner Treasured Prize (Pierro).
Sadly her dam, a half-sister to the dual Group 3 winner Battle Hero (Stratum), died last year with her final foal being the yet to race 2-year-old Best Present (Pierro).
Hailing from the family of the Group 1 mares Probabeel (NZ) (Savabeel) and Savvy Coup (NZ) (Savabeel), Treasured Star (as can be expected of the horses racing in the pink and white) boasts a lovely pedigree inclusive of a 5 X 5 cross of Special (USA) (Forli {Arg}) and a 6 X 6 cross of Sex Appeal (USA) (Buckpasser {USA}).
A descendant of the influential Gibside Fairy (GB) (Hermes {GB}), Treasured Star has now won three of her five starts. It was a good finish for the Peters family with their gelding Devoted (Xtravagant {NZ}) finishing off well for third.
Listed Placid Ark S., $125,000, 1200m
It was a deserved black-type breakthrough for Flying Missile (Cable Bay {Ire}) with the consistent filly having been so game in stakes races at her two previous outings.
A homebred for trainer Neville Parnham who also trained her talented dam Magnus Missile (Magnus) (a five-time city winner from just nine starts), Flying Missile is the second local stakes winner (and his seventh overall) for the former Woodside Park shuttler Cable Bay (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}).
Slipping to Playing God (Blackfriars), Magnus Missile has a 2020 filly by Lean Mean Machine whilst her 2-year-old Demolish (Rich Enuff) was a good fourth at his Ascot debut in early October.
Magnus Missile is one of four winners for Siuya (NZ) (O'Reilly {NZ}), half-sister to the G2 Ascot Vale S. winner Scaredee Cat (NZ) (Tale Of The Cat {USA}) from the family of the triple Group 1 winner Kinjite (NZ) (Centaine).
Magnus Missile's fourth dam is one of the legends of the Australian turf, the star mare Wenona Girl (Wilkes {Fr}).
Bred on a 4 X 5 Danzig (USA) (Northern Dancer {Can}) cross, Flying Missile carries three different Somethingroyal (USA) (Princequillo {Ire}) strains - Secretariat (USA) (Bold Ruler {USA}), Sir Gaylord (USA) (Turn-To {Ire}) and Loyal Land (USA) (Tillman {USA}).
Listed Carbine Club S., $125,000, 1400m
A horse who really knows how to find the line, Hot Zed (Red Hot Choice) was game breaking through for his first success at black-type level.
The winner of seven of his 16 starts, the Mungrup Stud homebred is a member of the final crop of the late Red Hot Choice (Redoute's Choice), one which yielded just five foals (four of whom are winners).
Always serving small books, Red Hot Choice had only 50 foals, 32 of whom raced - 19 being winners with Sanabreanna and Red Hot Tip also winning stakes races.
Hot Zed is one of eight winners for the multiple city winner Zedfire (Zedrich) who has also produced the stakes-placed Zetorio (Oratorio) and the metropolitan winners Zedspiel (Danehill Express) and Rich Red (Red Hot Choice).
His dam's final foal, Hot Zed is a grandson of another regular city winner in Miss Firecracker (Twig Ruler) whose five winners included the stakes winners Master Minx (Surtee) and Penny Banger (Zedrich) who is in turn dam of the triple Group 1 winner Behemoth (All Too Hard).
Listed Jungle Mist Classic, $125,000, 1200m
Angelic Miss (NZ) provided her Waikato Stud-based star sire Savabeel (Zabeel {NZ}) with his second stakes winner for the day with earlier on Zayydani (NZ) taking out the Listed Ballarat Cup.
Bred by Windsor Park Stud and purchased by Simon Miller for $250,000 at the 2018 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, Angelic Miss is her G1 W.S Cox Plate-winning sire's 120th individual stakes winner.
She also provided her dam sire (Guillotine {NZ}) with a stakes double of sorts with his son Justamaiz (NZ) winning the G3 Counties Cup at Te Rapa.
Angelic Miss' dam is the Group 3-placed Angelica Hall (NZ), daughter of the triple Listed winner Greta Hall (NZ) (Kaapstad {NZ}) - grandam of the Listed winner Fox Hall (Foxwedge).
Greta Hall is one of seven winners for the high-class broodmare Lovenvain (Vain), the stakes-placed metropolitan winner who was well represented by three other stakes winners... the dual Group 1-winning miler Golden Sword (NZ) (Kaapstad {NZ}), the Group 3 mare Madam Valeta (NZ) (Palace Music {USA}) and the Listed winner Balmoral Keep (NZ) (Balmerino {NZ}).
Descendants of Lovenvain have done a great job, amongst them being the four-time Group winner Falkirk (NZ) (Tale Of The Cat {USA}), the G2 Hill S. winner Mulan Princess (NZ) (Kaapstad {NZ}), the G1 Australasian Oaks heroine Royal Descent (Redoute's Choice), the Hong Kong Group 3 winner Ho Ho Khan (NZ) (Makfi {GB}) and the Listed winner Luscilla (NZ) (Entrepreneur {GB}).
Bred on a 3 X 4 Sir Tristram (Ire) (Sir Ivor {USA}) cross, Angelic Miss is also line-bred to the great mare Special (USA) (Forli {Arg}) via Nureyev (USA) (Northern Dancer {Can}) and Sadler's Wells (USA) (Northern Dancer {Can}).
Angelica Hall was served last spring by Ten Sovereigns (GB) (No Nay Never {USA}) with her two previous foals being a Mongolian Khan (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}) filly and a Shamexpress (NZ) (O'Reilly {NZ}) colt.
