Looking Ahead - November 24

4 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we will aim to give you something to follow.

On Wednesday, a stakes-performed son of I Am Invincible looks to break his maiden, we track a Hinchinbrook filly on debut at Doomben, and feature a half-sister to a Tassie star making her first appearance at Launceston.

Sandown Lakeside, Race 1, 1pm AEDT, IVE > Print Plate, $50,000, 1200m

Treporti, 3-year-old gelding (I Am Invincible x I'm In Love {USA} {Zafonic {USA}})

The Danny O'Brien-trained Treporti resumes having been placed in four of his six starts to date, while in the other two he has been fourth in stakes races as a 2-year-old. He was last seen when second at Bendigo in September. He had a recent Flemington jump-out and finished that off well to win.

He cost $600,000 from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, with bloodstock agent Bruce Perry signing the docket on behalf of a syndicate of owners which includes the Chittick family, Lib Petagna, Rosemont Stud and Jomara Bloodstock. He is out of Grade 3-placed Zafonic (USA) mare I'm In Love (USA), making him a half-brother to Grade 3 winner More Than Love (USA) (More Than Ready {USA}).

Doomben, Race 5, 4.38pm AEDT (3.38pm local), Encryption First Yearlings at Magic Millions 3YO Fillies Mdn, $37,000, 1110m

Island Magic, 3-year-old filly (Hinchinbrook x Magic In Motion {Magic Albert})

The Tony Gollan-trained Island Magic makes her debut and based on her good trial win at Eagle Farm last month, she looks well-poised to make an impression in this wide-open race. She is drawn to get the right run for jockey Ryan Maloney.

She cost Flying Start Syndications/Pinhook Bloodstock $30,000 through the Bell River Thoroughbreds draft at the 2020 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale. Her dam, Magic In Motion (Magic Albert), is out of the stakes-placed Lucyrowe (Mister C {USA}), who hails from the family of stakes winner Typhoon Red (Red Dazzler) and Breeders' Plate and AJC Sires' Produce S. winner Sovereign Slipper (Le Cordonnier {GB}).

Launceston, Race 2, 5.57pm AEDT, Jacksons Security Tasmanian Newmarket 1st December Mdn, $21,000, 1120m

Gee Gee Raindrops, 3-year-old filly (Manhattan Rain x Lita {Casino Prince})

Leon Wells went to $42,500 to secure this Manhattan Rain filly from the Alva Stud draft at the 2020 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale on behalf of the Geard family. No doubt, there was a dual purpose for the prominent breeders, as Gee Gee Raindrops is a half-sister to seven-time stakes winner Still A Star (Toronado {Ire}), Bill Ryan's star mare.

Their dam, Lita, is out of Group 3 winner Royal Asscher (NZ) (Stravinsky {USA}), which is a family with several other black-type performers. Including this filly's third dam, the Group 3 winner Diamond Cashel (NZ) (Sir Tristram {Ire}).

She has improved through her recent trials and under no riding, she ran talented mare Fayerra (Valentia) to a short margin in their hitout at Hobart earlier this month.
