Listed Phelan Ready, $130,000, 1000m
Palazzo Spirit (Spirit Of Boom) has trialled well for his return and he did look good leading throughout at his debut at this track in early October. Four of his rivals here have raced - Hard To Say (Exceed And Excel) close up in Group 3 company at debut before striking heavy going second-up, Thelwell (Bel Esprit) strong to the line at his Doomben debut in late October, Inequality (Capitalist) good in trying conditions at debut and Cocobrew Express (Spill The Beans) back to turf after a synthetic failure.
There is good trial form amongst the debutants with Proud Of You a Pride Of Dubai half-brother to the G1 Queensland Derby winner Eagle Way by More Than Ready {USA}) dominant over 1000 metres at Doomben whilst Swiss Exile (a Pariah descendant of the terrific At Talaq {USA} mare Skating) beat three others at Canterbury.
Listed Calaway Gal, $130,000, 1000m
Six of these early maturing fillies are already winners with Exo Lady (Exosphere) giving nothing else a chance when leading throughout at her first two starts. She may not have the lead to herself this time with Sunshine Coast debut winner Rose Of Shiraz (Deep Field) also showing good pace as have Minks Star (Star Witness) and Mouette (Better Than Ready).
Heroic Angel (part of a good start for Heroic Valour) and Betterdeel (Better Than Ready) were both odds-on favourites when recording soft debut victories.
Some good trial form also with those impressing in the morning including the amusingly named Better Golightly (by Better Than Ready out of Hepburn by Exceed And Excel) and the fellow emergencies Enzina (Menari), Li’l Misshonkytonk (Hellbent), Mingle (Not A Single Doubt) and My Lawless Lady (Hellbent).
Listed Just Now, $130,000, 1300m
Kisukano (Bel Esprit) has been a bit underrated but just keeps performing well.
Three granddaughters of Dubawi (Ire) (Dubai Millennium {GB}) are solid prospects - Eloquently (Poet’s Voice {GB}) fitter for two game seconds this time in, Expat (NZ) (Makfi {GB}) too strong leading throughout in Sydney when resuming and Adelase (Poet’s Voice {GB}) first-up off good trial form.
Winning Rupert’s sister Tycoon Evie (Written Tycoon) was picking up nicely late last weekend whilst Georgie’s Pride (Better Than Ready) and Ingear (Dissident) just don’t know how to run a bad race.
Listed Bribie H., $130,000, 1000m
Seeking to enhance the already impressive record of horses line-bred to Cotehele House (GB) (My Swanee {GB}), Shooting For Gold (Shooting To Win) just needs to be better at the gates than he was last weekend. He is yet to taste defeat from three starts on this, his home track.
Fans of the late Choisir (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) will be hoping he has a good day and his son Usmanov is a first-up threat off good trial form. The Odyssey (Better Than Ready), Sugar Boom (Spirit Of Boom) and Archer’s Paradox (Golden Archer) also tend to come to hand quickly.
The consistent Totally Charmed (I Am Invincible) was very good when resuming (beating home Shooting For Gold) with Zoustyle (Zoustar) since franking his form. Improvement is expected from Simply Fly (by Spirit Of Boom from the family of Shamus Awards’ star son Incentivise), a late scratching last weekend who did not have the best of runs last time out.
