Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
On Sunday, our attention will first be with a crop of almost all first-time starters at Bendigo, with particular attention on a well-related filly out of Swettenham Stud.
It’s then to the Sunshine Coast to see if the right formula has been found for a resuming 4-year-old gelding to claim its fourth win on the run, before heading west to Pinjarra where we will see if a first starter has the factor in a straight run shoot out for 3-year-olds.

Little Kaz, 2-year-old filly (Toronado {Ire} x Joyano {Equiano {Fr}})
By the sire that brought us Masked Crusader, the Ben and JD Hayes-trained Little Kaz stands out from the field of relative unknowns courtesy of a winning performance in a Flemington jump-out a fortnight ago.
Jake Noonan has the ride aboard the filly, lining up from barrier six.
Bred and owned by Mr C. Gordon, Little Kaz is a half-sister to Pammy Joy (Nicconi), the dam Joyano’s only other foal and a winner at its second start.
Joyano placed at two. Second dam Emily Joy (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) is a blood-sister to Minstrel Court (Danehill Dancer {Ire}). Emily Joy had eight named foals that all all raced, with four winners including My Aim is True (Equiano {Fr}); Keep Happy (Keep The Faith); Rugged Roy (Nicconi) and Emconi (Bianconi {USA}).

Camerlengo, 4-year-old gelding (More Than Ready {USA} x Gamble Me {Rock of Gibraltar {Ire}})
Owner-trainer Gillian Heinrich will rely on a repeat blistering performance when fresh for Camerlengo as a quest for a fourth straight win.
The Gooree Park-bred gelding has had just one trial, over 1000 metres, in the lead up to the race, mirroring its last preparation which saw it bolt in when fresh for its maiden win in July before going on to post two more wins.
Drawn in barrier five and with 1.5kg claiming apprentice Sheriden Tomlinson on board, it’s early speed should see it get to the fence and lead.
Starting its career with Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Camerlengo was a $75,000 purchase by Winners Bloodstock when the estate of the late Eduardo Cojuangco was offered under the Magic Millions banner.
Camerlengo’s dam, Gamble Me was a Group 3 winner, placed at Group 2 level and ran in the G1 The Galaxy at Royal Randwick. She has had eight foals, all have raced and five are winners. Full sister Major Conquest won one and placed at all four starts, including at Group 2 level at her second start.
Half-brother Kinagat (Street Cry {Ire}) won at Group 3 level in Otago, New Zealand.
Pinjarra Park, Race 2, 4.15pm AEDT (1.15pm local), Country Comfort Perth Mdn, $20,000, 1000m
Factory Made, 3-year-old colt (The Factor {USA} x Crown Saga {Bel Esprit})
Smile High Racing will be looking to a repeat of Factory Made’s impressive trials, three wins and a second from six trials, when the Dion Luciani-trained colt takes on a largely unknown field down the straight at Pinjarra Park.
Brad Parnham takes the ride and has a well-suited barrier two to jump from.
Dam Crown Saga had nine wins, all at Kalgoorlie, she has two named foals, while second Dam Vestment (NZ) (Danasinga) had four foals for three winners. Her dam Lady Madonna (NZ) (Kingdom Bay {NZ}) was a winner of the G1 Hawke's Bay Guineas.

Looking Back
A winning start with our first selection Stupendo saluting on debut becoming the first winner for Widden Stud-based first-season sire Supido. Unfortunately, both our other selections Mingle (Not A Single Doubt) and Himalaism (I Am Invincible) were scratched.
