In the build up to the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, we have picked out three yearlings who have had substantial pedigree updates in the past couple of months.
Taking our attention on this occasion is a Deep Field filly from a Group 1 winner, whose stakes-winning son has been in form, a Written Tycoon colt with couple of recent winners close-up on the page, and a Pierro colt whose international family have been getting the job done on both sides of the Pacific.
Lot 124 - Deep Field x Hurtle Myrtle (Dane Shadow), filly - On Account of Segenhoe Stud
This filly's pedigree got a double boost on Boxing Day when her half-brother Holyfield (I Am Invincible), an $800,000 graduate of this Sale three years ago, registered a fifth career win, and her half-sister Vamos Bebe (I Am Invincible) ran second in the Listed Hallmark S. at Ellerlsie, beaten only a short margin. Holyfield is already a multiple stakes winner and looks capable of getting back to that level for trainer Annabel Neasham.
That trio are out of Group 1-winning mare Hurtle Myrtle, who has been a good producer since being purchased by Segenhoe Stud for $1 million back in 2012. This filly is the third of her progeny to go through this Sale. Hurtle Myrtle is out of a half-sister to Listed winner Whisper Bay (Royal Academy {USA}) and is closely related to the G3 Zeditave S. winner He'll Haunt Us (Time For War).

Lot 675 - Written Tycoon x Waikato River (NZ) (Savabeel), colt - On Account of Edinburgh Park
Spectacle (Teofilo {ire}), the half-sister to this colt, has been on a winning run in South Australia, with two wins for Tony and Calvin McEvoy since the catalogue was first published, the latest of which came on New Year's Day at Murray Bridge. Her dam, Waikato River (NZ), recently had a half-brother, Invaluable (NZ) (Ocean Park {NZ}), win at Rotorua as well.
It's a family with plenty of black type, with Waikato River a half-sister to three stakes winners, Group 2 winner Oceanex (NZ) (Ocean Park {NZ}) and Group 3 winners Amexed (NZ) (Pentire {GB}) and Miss Aotearoa (NZ) (Per Incanto {USA}). Two of her full siblings, Marcellina (NZ) and Digital Fortress (NZ) are also stakes-placed.

Lot 798 - Pierro x Ben's Duchess (USA) (Munnings {USA}), colt - On Account of Newgate Farm
This colt's family have been busy in a few countries in recent months. His half-brother Mohawk Brave (Extreme Choice) has won both of his races for Jamie Richards, the latest at Manawatu on Boxing Day. He looks a very talented type. Another half-brother Enzina (Menari), who sold for $260,000 at this Sale last year, look promising, winning a trial before finishing sixth on debut for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.
Stakes winner Strolling The Bayou (USA) (Stroll {USA}), who features under his third dam, was also a recent winner in the United States. This colt's dam, Ben's Duchess (USA), was a Group 3 winner at Santa Anita and features G1 Hollywood Derby winner Vergennes (USA) (Dynaformer {USA}) on her page.
