Looking Ahead - January 18

4 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

On Tuesday, we will kickstart proceedings in the first event at Wyong with a high-rating Godolphin filly before turning our attention to the second event at Moe, where a filly from the family of Anamoe (Street Boss {USA}) debuts. We will round out the day in the third race at Moe, with a lightly raced but progressive 4-year-old gelding.

Wyong, Race 1, 1.50pm AEDT, Allan Kehoe Racing F&M Mdn H., $35,000, 1100m

Arbitration, 3-year-old filly (Street Boss {USA} x Moderate {Commands})

Godolphin filly Arbitration has been seen at the races on three occasions to date, with the most recent being at Goulburn on September 25 last year when finishing 5.3l second behind subsequent G3 Carbine Club S. winner Fangirl (Sebring).

The James Cummings-trained filly finished third in a trial over 815 metres at Warwick Farm on December 30, so expect her to be forward enough to figure prominently on resumption. Tim Clark has been booked to ride Arbitration and will need to overcome barrier 10.

Street Boss (USA) | Standing at Darley

Arbitration is out of the Listed-winning Moderate, making her a half-sister to Canberra Black Opal S. winner Pin Sec (Lonhro).

Moderate is out of the G3 Vanity S.-placed Gradual (Strategic). Her third dam is the Group 3-winning, G1 Blue Diamond S. fourth placegetter Rass Dancer (Rassendyll {USA}).

Moe, Race 2, 2pm AEDT, Bottlemart Moe 3YO Mdn Plate, $25,000, 1200m

Belle Tycoon, 3-year-old filly (Written Tycoon x Unreal Deal {Redoute’s Choice})

The Simon Zahra-trained Belle Tycoon steps out on debut after showing some ability when finishing third in a Flemington jump-out on December 31.

Rising young hoop Liam Riordan has been booked to ride and will be set a task to offset the wide draw, barrier nine of 10.

An $80,000 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase by First Light Racing, Paul Willetts and Michelle Payne via the draft of Torryburn Stud, Belle Tycoon is out of Unreal Deal, a half-sister to G1 Rosehill Guineas winner Dealer Principal (Flying Spur).

Unreal Deal’s stakes-winning grandam Voltage (Whiskey Road {USA}) is responsible for the G1 Australasian Oaks-winning Anamato (Redoute’s Choice), the dam of dual Group 1-winning Godolphin colt Anamoe.

Five-time Group 1 winner Grand Armee (Hennessy {USA}) features in this family as does G1 Oakleigh Plate winner Drum (Marauding {NZ}).

Moe, Race 3, 2.30pm AEDT, Moe Optical 4YO+ Mdn Plate, $25,000, 1200m

Jamesatelli, 4-year-old gelding (Ilovethiscity x Little Gem {Planchet})

The Clayton Douglas-trained Jamesatelli should prove hard to topple here after finishing a gallant third on debut at Mornington on December 29. Expect him to get a lovely run in transit from barrier seven of 14.

A $13,000 2021 Inglis Digital May Sale purchase by Black Mamba, Jamesatelli is out of dual winner Little Gem, a daughter of the Listed-placed mare Crimson Gem (Monde Bleu {GB}).

Little Gem’s third dam is the dual Listed-winning Magic Shower (Star Shower). The stakes-winning, G1 Queensland Derby-placed Jumbo Prince (Outback Prince) features in this family as well.
