In today's instalment of 2021/2022 Rapid Reflections, we feature a quickfire round with Andrew Williams of Andrew Williams Bloodstock.
TDN AusNZ: Favourite racing moment of 2021?
Andrew Williams: The Thousand Guineas was pretty special. Yearning won it, who I own a share in and Elusive Express ran second, a filly I bought privately out of New Zealand.
TDN AusNZ: And favourite non-racing moment?
AW: Getting engaged! Was on Monday morning in the middle of lockdown, Lily had no idea. Easily one of the best days I’ve ever had.
TDN AusNZ: If you could be someone else in the industry for a day who would it be, and why?
AW: David Ellis. Operating that sheep and beef unit at Te Akau would be my dream.
TDN AusNZ: Who is your favourite racehorse of this year?
AW: Verry Elleegant/Big Skinny. Her efforts this year in the BMW and the Melbourne Cup were freakish and extremely emotional. She’s a very special racehorse to me and my business and it’s great seeing the public getting behind her.
TDN AusNZ: Who is your favourite stallion, and why?
AW: Snitzel. He’s just different gravy.
TDN AusNZ: Which stallion do you believe is the best physical type?
AW: Tough one. Always loved Deep Field with his size, strength and muscular profile.
TDN AusNZ: Favourite binge-worthy television show?
AW: Selling Sunset. Shocking tv, like absolute sh*t, but highly addictive.
TDN AusNZ: What kept you occupied during this year's lockdowns, aside from work?
AW: Getting engaged and buying my first home.

TDN AusNZ: What positive change would you like to see in the industry in 2022?
AW: Like most people. Having the big boys of Sydney and Melbourne reading off the same hymn sheet. It’s crazy what’s going on at the moment. The leisure dollar is so competitive let alone competing against ourselves.
TDN AusNZ: What's your 2022 New Year's resolution?
AW: Successfully making it through the wedding planning process…
