G3 Kevin Sharkie Bow Mistress S., $150,000, 1200m
Gutsy to the line recording her fourth win - and her first at stakes level - having raced in three states, Zoushine (Zoustar) earned valuable winning black-type to go with her two stakes placings.
Bred by the Parker family who remain in the ownership, Zoushine was one of the stand-out fillies at the 2019 William Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale where she was secured by McEvoy Mitchell Racing for $380,000; the stable of course enjoying great success with the Zoustar breed with Sunlight.
She is stakes winner number 26 for her Widden Stud based dual Group 1-winning sire and the first runner (and second foal) for her handy dam Ravenous Lass (Stratum) who won five of her 27 starts including two at Flemington.
Served last spring by Flying Artie with her most recent foal being the yet to race Astern three-year-old Limited Risk, Ravenous Lass is a half-sister to the Group 2 Autumn S. winner San Nicasio (Hard Spun {USA}).
The fourth stakes winner line-bred (and the third by Zoustar) to Redoute's Choice, Zoushine has quite the international pedigree with her third dam Eichtercua (Ire) (Petorius {Ire}) an Irish stakes-winning half-sister to the Indian stakes winner Star Profile (Ind) (Midhish {GB}).
Listed Schweppes Tasmanian Derby, $150,000, 2200m
It was a tough performance off a wide run by the Victorian visitor The Nephew (Wordsmith), the Patrick Payne trained gelding who became the second Listed Tasmanian Derby winner (Geegees Classicboy in 2015 the first) for his G3 The Debonair-winning sire who stands locally with Paul and Elizabeth Geard.
Bred by Joe O'Neill and Power Thoroughbreds who remain in the ownership after O'Neill's Prime Thoroughbreds purchased him for $40,000 at the 2020 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale, The Nephew is Wordsmith's seventh stakes winner and the first without Gee Gee in his name!
He is the first foal for the Devonport maiden winner Husson's Kiss (Husson {Arg}) who was served last spring by Hellbent with her only other foal being a yearling colt by Sizzling.
Husson's Kiss is one of the four winners for the Randwick winner Senro Kisaki (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) who is still at stud for Ian Smith - served last spring by Deep Field. She is also dam of the triple Group winner Rubisaki (Rubick).
The Nephew's sire Wordsmith is bred on a Danzig (USA) (Northern Dancer {Can})/Nijinsky II (Can) (Northern Dancer {Can}) cross - the opposite to his dam Husson's Kiss.
Listed Graham Family Funerals Strutt S., $100,000, 2100m
Local filly Miss Charlie Brown (Myboycharlie {Ire}) secured an upset win in the Listed Strutt S. at Hobart.
The Adam Trinder-trained filly surged from off the pace to claim Ashmania (Wordsmith) in the shadows of the post and win by 0.2l with the well-backed Bundle Of Fun (Written Tycoon) in third.
It is the third win of her 11-start career and takes her career prizemoney to over $128,000.
Bred and sold by Bowness Stud, Miss Charlie Brown was a $62,000 purchase for her trainer at the 2020 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale.
She is out of Red Ransom (USA) mare Red Fever, who is the sister to Group 3 winner Way West (Danehill {USA}) and a granddaughter of multiple Grade 1 winner Annoconnor (USA) (Nureyev {USA}).
Red Fever has a yearling colt by Bon Hoffa before missing to D’Argento in in 2020.
