Revolutionary Miss, trained by Peter and Paul Snowden for Triple Crown Syndications, went into the $300,000 feature with two starts to her name for two second placings. She was runner-up on debut on the Kensington track on New Year’s Day, then filled the same position in the G3 Widden S. at Rosehill on January 29.
It was a different story on Saturday as she conquered a strong field of juvenile fillies, edging out Miss Roseiano (Exceed And Excel) and winning by 0.75l.
She is now the headline act for Russian Revolution, whose debut crop so far features four winners from 15 runners, earning $868,895 in prizemoney to date this season.

Other notable performers include Russian Conquest, who was runner-up behind standout filly Coolangatta (Written Tycoon) in the R. Listed Magic Millions 2YO Classic, as well as two-race winner Russian Warrior and debut winner Rise Of The Masses. The latter also finished third in Saturday’s Coolmore Pierro Plate at Randwick.
Now with a lead of more than $200,000 over second-placed The Mission, Russian Revolution is in pole position to follow in the footsteps of fellow Newgate stallions Extreme Choice and Capitalist, who dominated last season’s first-season sire race.
“A habit of standing champion first-season sires would certainly be a good habit to get into,” Newgate Managing Director Henry Field told TDN AusNZ.

“We’re not counting any chickens – there’s still plenty of water to go under the bridge this season. But when performances like these are on the board, and you know of at least six or seven other progeny in the wings that go really well, the signs are certainly there that you’ve got an outstanding first-season sire on your hands.
“Saturday’s win was a huge result for a young stallion, siring the winner of a prestigious Group 2 race at Caulfield for 2-year-old fillies, and she’s now one of the favourites for the G1 Blue Diamond.
“Russian Revolution is head and shoulders above the competition now on the first-season sire table, and he’s off to a huge start. He also had a couple of horses run really well in the Pierro Plate today (Saturday), Rise Of The Masses and Miss Faberge, and I have no doubt Miss Faberge is a black-type horse in the making. She was a highly touted first starter today and just had no luck.

“We’re absolutely delighted with the start Russian Revolution has had. He himself was a very high-class sprinter, by a champion sire in Snitzel, and from the family of Flying Spur and Encosta De Lago – those are all ingredients for a good stallion, and we couldn’t be happier with how it’s playing out.
“He didn’t get to the races himself until he was a winter 2-year-old, he was quite immature early and was at his very best as a 4-year-old. So the fact that his progeny have been doing all of this so early is very encouraging.”
Russian Revolution raced in the red and yellow colours of Newgate’s partner the China Horse Club, who bred Saturday’s stakes-winning filly Revolutionary Miss. She is out of Purcentage (Onemorenomore), who herself placed at Listed level in New Zealand as a 2-year-old and is also the dam of Listed Canberra Guineas winner Equation (Press Statement).

Revolutionary Miss was a $195,000 purchase by Triple Crown Syndications from the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
“That result today further illustrates the importance of shareholders in the stallion business,” Field said. “The China Horse Club have been huge supporters of Russian Revolution, sending very good mares to him in his early books. His other black-type performer, Russian Conquest, was bred by another of the shareholders in SF Bloodstock.”

Field has also been more than satisfied with Russian Revolution’s performances in the sale ring so far this year, where his yearlings have averaged $238,103 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and $152,200 at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
“His progeny have been well sought-after this year, as they should be with the performances he’s put on the board so far,” Field said. “That should only continue from here on in, given he’s showing such quality continually, week in and week out.”
