Yonce arrogant for fourth straight

It was an arrogant from last-to-first win for Yonce (NZ) (Proisir) to notch up win four from four starts, to take the Jack Styring Trophy at Flemington.

Co-trainer Ciaron Maher said the trip over a mile was always going to suit her a lot better and she was beautiful, letting down really well.

“She just seems to be ticking through the grades nicely and as she stretches out she’ll only get better,’’ Maher said. “When they’re in form like this and if she continues to please us at home, we’ll keep ticking her along and spacing her runs.

“When they are 4-year-olds, you have got to go through their grades. Certainly she’s very progressive. She won pretty arrogantly there.’’

Chipping Norton for Montefilia

Multiple Group 1-winning mare Montefilia (Kermadec {NZ}) has been confirmed as a starter in the G1 Chipping Norton next week as the mare resumes for David Payne Racing.

The confirmation came following an exhibition gallop at Rosehill on Saturday with Jason Collett taking the reins of Montefilia alongside stablemate Blue Soldier (USA) (War Front {USA}) under the riding of Tom Sherry. They covered the 1600 metres in 1:42.10, with the last 600 metres in a time of 34.20s.

Rule Of Law rules again

Bjorn Baker was dancing once again when Rule Of Law (Snitzel) brought up a fifth consecutive race win, a second under the riding of Tim Clark, when he proved too good at Rosehill in the Schweppes H.

“We’re absolutely thrilled,’’ said Baker. “We have a great bunch of owners and he’s just so much fun because there’s no risk for what we paid,’’ he added.

“We’re very lucky. He’s always had ability and we’ve just got him when we can get the best out of him.’’

Rule Of Law, from Helena’s Secret (USA) (Five Star Day {USA}) was an Inglis Easter yearling buy for China Horse Club and Newgate from the Highgrove Stud draft which then sold to Clarke Bloodstock last year in the Inglis Digital April Sale for $30,000. His prizemoney yesterday was a touch over $60,000.

Clarken pair gallant in Dubai

The Will Clarken pair of Parsifal (NZ) (Darci Brahma {NZ}) and He’s A Balter (Spirit Of Boom) finished third and fourth respectively in the G2 Blue Point Sprint in Meydan, Dubai, overnight Friday on their World Cup Carnival campaign.

Clarken, who made the trip over for the race, was pleased with the runs he described as 'gallant' adding that he was incredibly proud of the way the boys continue to represent the stable.

Jockey Caitlin Jones has been based in the UAE to work with the horses towards the US$26.5 million (AU$36.9 million) Dubai World Cup raceday on March 26. Jones rode He’s A Balter in the Blue Point Sprint, with Jamie Spencer on Parisfal.

Adelaide Cup on Skelm’s agenda

Skelm (Animal Kingdom {USA}) is off to the Adelaide Cup after lifting his game at Moonee Valley Friday night for a maiden stakes win in the Listed Torney Night Cup over 2500 metres.

Disappointing at his previous start over 1800 metres at Caulfield, the runner-up in the Listed Bagot H. at Flemington, the Terry Kelly-trained gelding went to the front at The Valley under Michael Poy for a soft run then showed a great turn of foot and was strong to the line to defeat Daqiansweet Junior (Sweet Orange) by 3l with South Pacific (Galileo {Ire}) a further length back in third.

“He is headed to the Adelaide Cup. I went there last week for a look at the track, so everything is lining up. He will have no problem running two miles, he was strong in the Bagot.”

Bred by Darley, Skelm is the best of seven winners from as many foals out of the Spinning World (USA) mare Lajoie a sister to G1 Stradbroke H. winner and top-class stallion Thorn Park.

Cascadian in for Behemoth

The withdrawal from The All-Star Mile of South Australian mega star Behemoth (All Too Hard) due to lameness has opened the door for Group 1 winner Cascadian (GB) (New Approach {Ire}) to enter the race as the highest prizemoney winner over the past 12 months.

It was announced by Behemoth’s co-trainer David Jolly late Friday that the two-time Memsie S. winner had pulled up lame from his disappointing run in the CF Orr S. He had undergone scans in Ballarat earlier in the week and was again vet checked on Friday before Jolly advised Racing Victoria of his decision to withdraw him from the race.

The All-Star Mile rules had the James Cummings-trained Cascadian as first emergency. The Mike Moroney-trained Tofane (NZ) (Ocean Park {NZ}) is now first emergency.

“It’s disappointing news for David Jolly, Sam Lyons, Grand Syndicates and all of his many fans that Behemoth cannot take his place in this year’s Seppelt Wines The All-Star Mile. The connections have been great supporters of this race and had targeted Behemoth’s campaign at going two places better than his 2021 minor placing,” said Racing Victoria’s Greg Carpenter.
