Looking Ahead - February 20

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Our Sunday selections take us first to Ballarat and the home track of a Sacred Falls (NZ) gelding before we head down to Moe to watch the daughter of a Melbourne Cup runner, Unchain My Heart (Al Maher), and a well-related All Too Hard filly.

Ballarat, Race 1, 12.45pm, Eureka Concrete Mdn Plate, $35,000, 1200m

Kaliuwaa Falls (NZ) 3-year-old gelding (Sacred Falls {NZ} x Promendade {NZ} {Savabeel})

A home-track advantage should help Kaliuwaa Falls to a better result than was the case for him on debut at Pakenham last month.

A half-brother to Group 2-placed Seriously (NZ) (O’Reilly {NZ}), he has plenty of speed and had jumped out well since Pakenham, showing improvement. His full sister, Sacred Lass (NZ), took a few starts to get going but has been good of late for Philip Stokes to this prep score four placings and a last start win at Moonee Valley earlier this month.

Jordan Childs has the ride and will go from barrier eight.

Sacred Falls (NZ) | Standing at Waikato Stud

Moe, Race 1,1.05pm, Moe Refrigeration Churchil Cup Fillies’ and Mare’s Mdn Plate. $25,000, 1628m

Love Loch, 3-year-old filly (Cable Bay {Ire} x Unchain My Heart {Al Maher})

The daughter of dual Andrew Ramsden S. winner and Caulfield and Melbourne Cup runner Unchain My Heart, comes here on debut for Mick Price and Michael Kent and will go from barrier one in the strong hands of Zac Spain aboard.

She has half-brother Unchain My Bike (Rubick) racing, he placed at Pakenham last July and returned last month with limited success.

Cable Bay (Ire) | Standing at Highclere Stud

Moe, Race 2, 1.40pm, John Kerr Real Estate Trafalgar Cup Mdn Plate $25,000, 1117m

Clymene 3-year-old filly (All Too Hard x Afleet Esprit {Bel Esprit})

While there is not a lot to go from her one and only trial earlier this month, with a seventh placing from nine, the Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained Clymene is from a quality family and is from the same sire as Alligator Blood.

Dam Afleet Esprit won the G2 Thousand Guineas Prelude and was a quality early runner, while half-brother Merchant Prince (Written Tycoon) is an impressive 2-year-old for Peter Moody, winning at his second start last month and following up with a second on Wednesday.

She was bred and has been retained for racing by Echo Beach Bloodstock. Damien Thornton takes her from the inside barrier in this, her debut.

All Too Hard | Standing at Vinery Stud

Looking Back

Our Saturday selections served up some good results with Jukebox Glow (Juke Box) second on the Sunshine Coast while Capitalist filly I'mlovin'ya got the job done and Magic (Snitzel) finished second in the Silver Slipper.
