Pedigree Boosters - New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale

3 min read

In the build up to the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale, we have picked out three yearlings who have had substantial pedigree updates in the past couple of months.

Kicking off, we have a Reliable Man (GB) filly who gets a Group 1 boost going into the Sale, then an Per Incanto (USA) filly with a half-sister lifting her and finally an American Pharoah (USA) colt with a long list of close relations with recent wins to their names.

Lot 261 - Reliable Man (GB) x Fromage (Flying Spur), filly - On account of Westbury Stud

A Group 1-level boost came to this Reliable Man (GB) filly by way of half-sister Mascarpone (NZ) (Shooting To Win) winning the G1 WFA Classic a little over a week out from the Sale. Mascarpone was already getting the runs on the board this year for the filly, with a pair of thirds at Group 1 level.

Another half-sister, Futaie (NZ) (Redwood {GB}) also brings an update, breaking her maiden at Waipuna at her third start in the first week of 2022.

She is from the same family as G1 Australian Oaks winner Sofia Rosa (NZ) (Makfi {GB}) the New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year in 2015/16.

Lot 290 - Per Incanto (USA) x Happy Endings (NZ) (Tavistock {NZ}), filly - On account of Brighthill Farm

Her grandam, Snap (NZ) (Kingdom Bay {NZ}) was joint Champion 3-Year-Old and New Zealand Filly of the Year, scoring eight Group-level wins, half of those being Group 1.

Now her half-sister Dragon Queen (NZ) (Sweynesse) is a family doing the job for this family also, placing at Group 3 level and then breaking through for a win in the G2 Auckland Westbury Classic in January.

Dragon Queen has been in good form this campaign with three other placings, including a third in the G2 Rich Hill Mile.

Half-sister Emer Rogha (NZ) (Preferment {NZ}) sold at the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale for NZ$17,500.

Lot 385 - American Pharoah (USA) x Love Charm (GB) (Singspiel {Ire}), colt - On account of Phoenix Park

The colt has four half-siblings as winners while a string of closely related runners have put plenty of type against his updates, headed by Colette (Hallowed Crown) second in the G2 Apollo S. last month, Wellington (All Too Hard) Group 1 winner in Hong Kong and Naval Crown (Dubawi {Ire}) winner of the G2 Meydan Al Fahidi Fort S.

Also with a win to its name in recent times for updates are close relations Atonement (Dundeel {NZ}), Faith of Hope (Olympic Glory {Ire}), Gravina (Sebring), Hafeet Alain (Ire) (Elzaam) and Magic Sound (Ire) (Kingman {GB}), Motorsport (Fr) (Motivator {GB}), Hopkins (Zoustar), Turnstar (Star Turn) and Shelby’s Eye (Jpn) (Harbinger {GB}) and Portalma (Ire) (Churchill {Ire}) while Frankel (GB) son Herman Hesse (GB) ran second in the Listed Christmas Cup.
