Pedigree Boosters - Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale

3 min read

In the build up to the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, we have picked out three yearlings who have had substantial pedigree updates in the past couple of months.

Today, a blueblood Justify (USA) colt with a recent Hong Kong update takes our focus, along with an Invader colt with a Group 1-winning half-brother and an Adelaide (Ire) colt from one of the most successful recent families in the Studbook.

Lot 62 - Justify (USA) x Atlantic Jewel (Fastnet Rock), colt - On account of Coolmore Stud

This is the final colt from the champion mare Atlantic Jewel (Fastnet Rock), who was a four-time Group 1 winner and whose son, Russian Emperor (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), won a G3 Hampton Court S. at Royal Ascot. Sold to Hong Kong, Russian Emperor was runner-up in the Listed Hong Kong Derby last year and then, last month, won the G1 Hong Kong Gold Cup for trainer Douglas Whyte.

Atlantic Jewel, who has also produced the winner Pacific Ocean (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), was a half-sister to G1 Thousand Guineas winner Commanding Jewel (Commands) from a family which has produced G1 The Galaxy winner I Am Excited (Snitzel) as well as the Group 3 winner Flippant (Hinchinbrook).

Lot 116 - Invader x Conversely (Ire) (Shamardal {USA}), colt - On account of Evergreen Stud Farm

This colt will attract plenty of attention as the half-brother to Converge (Frankel {GB}), who won the JJ Atkins S. last year and recently added the G1 Randwick Guineas to his resume, defeating Anamoe (Street Boss {USA}). Converge would later run second in the G1 Rosehill Guineas, with Anamoe turning the tables.

Their dam, Conversely (Shamardal {USA}), descends from a very successful American family, with her dam, Melhor Ainda (USA) (Pulpit {USA}), a Grade 3 winner and her grandam Potrinner (Arg) (Potrillazo {Arg}) a Grade 1 winner in Argentina. Adding to the international flavour of the pedigree is Melhor Ainda's half-brother Danon Go Go (USA) (Alderbaran {USA}), who was a stakes winner in Japan.

Lot 447 - Adelaide (Ire) x Starspangled (Ire) (Danehill {USA}), colt - On account of Twin Hills Stud

What a remarkable job Starspangled (Ire) (Danehill {USA}) has done as a broodmare since she was purchased for just $30,000 in 2014. She is the dam of Group 1-winning fillies Youngstar (High Chaparral {Ire}) and Funstar (Adelaide {Ire}), who have both been sold for seven-figure amounts to Japan post their racing career.

She is also the dam of Baggy Green (Galileo {Ire}), who has produced the four-time Group 1 winner Tofane (NZ) (Ocean Park {NZ}), who added a G1 CF Orr S., to her resume last month, and No Compromise (NZ) (Pins), who won the G3 Queens Cup this month and was placed in a Listed Parramatta Cup. Benaud (NZ) (Reliable Man {GB}), contests the G2 Tulloch S. on Monday.
