Spendthrift Australia’s Unreserved Dispersal announced

Magic Millions have announced that they will be staging a two-part unreserved dispersal of Spendthrift Australia’s stock.

A total of 95 lots will be presented across Magic Millions' auctions both online and at the Gold Coast over the coming weeks, with the first opportunities for buyers coming at the Magic Millions Online Sale from April 19-20, with 52 lots catalogued.

The streamlined online sale, with just 28 hours of bidding time, will feature 22 weanlings, nine yearlings and 21 broodmares while the second part of the dispersal occurring at the 2022 Gold Coast National Sale, with 12 lots catalogued for the National Weanling Sale and 31 lots to be offered at the National Broodmare Sale.

Daisies poised to beat the boys

Patrick Moloney has doubt that the Sheamus Mills-owned Daisies (Sebring) can hold her own against the boys in Saturday’s Listed Port Adelaide Guineas at Morphettville.

The in-form Melbourne-based rider described Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr’s decision to bypass the G3 Auraria S. in preference for the Port Adelaide Guineas as the ‘perfect placement’.

“She races against the boys because she gets in better at the weights, she only has to carry 55.5kg whereas she would’ve had to carry 58kg (in the Auraria),” Moloney told Racenet.

“And no offence to the boys but I think the fillies’ race is stronger than the boys and she meets them at set weights, so it looks the perfect placement by the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr team.”

Quick Thinker to stand in Tasmania

G1 Australian Derby winner Quick Thinker (NZ) (So You Think {NZ}) will stand at Mortree Thoroughbreds in Tasmania after topping the Inglis Online March (Sale) when secured by Mandy Gunn for $350,000.

The Murray Baker and Andrew Foreman-trained entire, who was raced by OTI will be Mortree’s foundation stallion.

Inglis Digital goes Online

A host of quality racing and breeding prospects have been catalogued for the Inglis Digital April (Early) Online Sale, which is now open for bidding.

A total of 292 lots have been finalised for the Sale including 114 broodmares, 67 racehorses, 55 race fillies, 30 racehorse shares, 22 yearlings, two weanlings, one stallion prospect and one unraced thoroughbred.

Among the highlights are Group 2-winning entire Chief Ironside (GB) (Lawman {Fr}), well-bred Capitalist filly Coolist, whose half-sibling sold for $800,000 at the recently completed Inglis Easter Yearling Sale along with the Group 3-winning, G2 Adelaide Cup-placed mare Eperdument (Americain {USA}).

Prairie Flower to blossom

Henry Dwyer and Mitchell Aitken will be hoping Prairie Flower (Star Turn) can provide them with two juvenile feature victories in the space of seven days when she steps out in Saturday's Listed Redoute’s Choice S. at Caulfield.

The trainer and jockey duo, who took out last Saturday’s VOBIS Gold Rush at Bendigo, will team up again in the 1100-metre contest.

“I thought she had good improvement to come out of it (Ballarat win), she was pretty light on work-wise, leading into it,” Dwyer told Racenet.

“She should take another step and if you take them out of the equation (first two starts) and judge her only on the one run she’d be going in (the Redoute’s Choice) a bit shorter than she is in the market.”

Another Sooboog salute

Young Kitchen Hills stallion Sooboog brought up his 18th winner for the season by the way of Raging Rush’s victory at Orange on Friday.

The Clint Lundholm-trained filly finished 1.7l the better of Last Bid Liam (Shalaa {Ire}) and Spinosaurus (Zoustar) in the 1000-metre contest.

Sooboog is currently tied with Winning Rupert and American Pharoah (USA) on the second-season sire standings by winners.

Class not the concern

While connections of I’m Thunderstruck (NZ) (Shocking) hold concern over their galloper's ability to let down on a ‘bog’ track there is no query about his top-tier credentials.

The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr-trained gelding will step out beyond 1600 metres for the first time in a star-studded edition of the G1 Queen Elizabeth S. after bouncing through a second placing behind Mr Brightside (NZ) (Bullbars) in last Saturday’s G1 Doncaster H.

"We would have preferred not to get all the rain because it makes it a very tough, testing 2000 metres. So, for his first go at 10 furlongs, he's up against warriors that are tougher and more seasoned than him,” Kent Jnr said.

"It is going to be a bog, they will be slogging home. The Heavy track last week, they had a day or two to dry out and I haven't walked a softer track in my life than last week and it can't be any better this week.”

Distance rise to suit

Lindsay Park is looking forward to a rise in distance and getting Always On My Mind (Deep Impact {Jpn}) back onto a bigger track when she competes in Saturday’s G3 Auraria S. at Morphettville.

The Arrowfield-owned filly, who has given every indication of relishing a rise in distance at her first three career starts for Ben and JD Hayes will press onto the G1 Australasian Oaks if she measures up in a quality edition of the Auraria.

“I thought in her run at The Valley we got dictated to and got shuffled back further than we wanted, but she was quite good late and hit the line really well and I think she will get better once she gets out in trip and she’s out to 1800 metres now,” Ben Hayes told JustHorseRacing.

“With a little bit of luck and the way she finished off, she would have finished closer at The Valley and if she runs well here, we’ll head to the Australasian Oaks and the SA Fillies Classic as she’ll stay all day.”

Clarken quietly confident

Will Clarken is quietly confident that talented filly Libiamo (Written Tycoon) can make an impression on her debut for his stable in a competitive BM68 H. at Morphettville on Saturday.

The former Grahame Begg-trained filly ran on strongly to win on debut at Caulfield last July before finishing 1.9l fifth in the Listed Quezette S.

“She’s a lovely filly, she’s got a few quirks and that’s what could bring her unstuck on Saturday,” Clarken told Racenet.

“But she’s got a great action, she’s good in the wind and there’s a lot of upside. I’m hoping she’ll run really well and then go to a Redelva (Stakes) and then the (Tobin Bronze Stakes)."

Hoard The Bourbon on Queensland Derby path

Trainer Stephen Marsh was delighted with the performance of promising 3-year-old Hoard The Bourbon (NZ), who took out The Oaks Stud 3YO 1600 at Awapuni on Friday, so much so that he could set the son of Iffraaj (GB) for May’s G1 Queensland Derby at Eagle Farm.

Hoard The Bourbon (NZ)

“He’s a horse we have always thought was well above average. He will go to the Championship Stakes and head straight to the 2100 metres and he could potentially be set for the Queensland Derby,” Marsh said.

“He just doesn’t have enough prizemoney to be doing too much at the moment, but if he wins the Championship Stakes, we would get him over and run him in the Derby."
