Listed Anzac Mile, NZ$60,000, 1550m

A front-running performance by Sergio (NZ) (Swiss Ace) was rewarded with a first victory at stakes level when he took out the Listed Manawatu ITM Anzac Mile over 1550 metres at Awapuni on Sunday.

The Chrissy Bambry-trained 4-year-old held out the challenges of Cambridge raiders Providenceprovides (Real Impact {Jpn}) and Zee Falls (NZ) (Sacred Falls {NZ}) to register the fourth and most important victory of his 12-start career.

Bred by the late Kevin Pratt under his Kamada Bloodstock banner, Sergio became Kamada Bloodstock’s 100th race winner when he led all the way in last Monday’s Woodville-Pahiatua Cup (1600 metres).

He is out of the Lonhro mare Shanro and is the younger half-brother of Listed Timaru S. winner Windsor (NZ) (Alamosa {NZ}), while he hails from the extended family of multiple Australian Group 2 winner Camena (Snippets) who was also placed on two occasions at Group 1 level.

Shanro foaled an Almanzor (Fr) filly last year before visiting Tivaci.
