Valachi Downs’ young racing stock dispersal online

After Valachi Downs sold their broodmares in an unreserved dispersal via the Gavelhouse Plus platform on Friday, attention will now turn to the farm’s Unreserved Young and Racing Stock Dispersal which is now live on Gavelhouse Plus.

Friday’s sale saw Tofane’s (NZ) (Ocean Park {NZ}) dam Baggy Green (Galileo {Ire}) sell to Yulong’s Written Tycoon Syndicate for NZ$1.75 million and Valachi Downs will be hoping for more good results when they sell 52 lots of young and racing stock.

Among the highlights in the next offering is Tofanes yearling sister, while they will also offer G2 Sir Tristram Fillies' Classic runner-up Glory Bound (NZ) (Tavistock {NZ}).

The offering includes a filly by Zoustar and out of the Redoute’s Choice mare Dark Hedges, making her a three-quarter sister to Group 2-winning juvenile and multiple Group 1 runner-up Zousain.

Meanwhile, they will also offer an Almanzor (Fr) half-sister to G2 Royal S. winner Needle And Thread (Makfi {GB}), who sold for NZ$410,000 in the breeding stock dispersal on Friday.

“This is a unique opportunity to secure genuine racing propositions that are of the quality that they would usually be retained to further bolster an elite broodmare band,” Valachi Downs' General Manager Gareth Downey said.

“They have been well-reared and those that are further through the system have been well-educated by the Valachi Racing team and are ready for new owners to reap the benefits from this.”

Bidding will close from 7pm NZT (5pm AEST) on Friday, 1 July.

Pre-race treatment fears sees Minks Star scratched

Two-year-old filly Minks Star (Star Witness) was withdrawn from Saturday's Listed Tattersall's Life Members S. on suspicion of raceday treatment.

Queensland Racing Integrity Commission stewards scratched the Chris Anderson-trained Minks Star from the race as their investigation on Saturday morning found the horse had allegedly been treated with a substance within one clear day of racing.

An inquiry was held at Eagle Farm ahead of the nine-race card and Racing Queensland stewards determined they were not satisfied that Minks Star had not been treated within the clear-day rule and she was subsequently scratched from the Listed field.

Gosden and Dettori agree to take a ‘sabbatical’

After days of speculation, John Gosden and Frankie Dettori mutually agreed to take a ‘sabbatical’ from their successful partnership after the pair met on Friday in Newmarket.

Gosden was openly critical of some of the rides Dettori gave some of his horses at the Royal Ascot meeting, including on staying superstar Stradivarius (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) and rumours of a rift were escalated further after Dettori was not booked on two of the the Gosden-trained horses at Saturday’s Newmarket meeting.

"Following speculation in the press, Frankie and I have amicably decided to take a sabbatical from the trainer-jockey relationship but we remain the closest of friends and colleagues,” Gosden - who trains in partnership with his son Thady - revealed to the Racing Post on Friday.

"Frankie has been – and always will be – one of the family here so I wanted to meet face to face after he returned from his post-Ascot holiday.

"I do not intend to appoint a stable jockey at Clarehaven."
