Looking Ahead - June 30

4 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Thursday at Hawkesbury, we’ve got a half-sister to Deep Field going around, while at Bendigo we look at a daughter of the prolific mare Absolut Glam (Snowland), and a closely related filly to Makybe Diva (GB) (Desert King {Ire}).

Hawkesbury, Race 5, 2.40pm AEST, Living Turf Mdn, $35,000, 1000m

Monte Invincible, 2-year-old filly (I Am Invincible x Listen Here {Elusive Quality {USA}})

There will be many eyes on this filly when she debuts in this race because she’s a daughter of Listen Here, who was a Listed winner in South Australia. As such, Monte Invincible is a half-sister to the Newgate stallion Deep Field, and also to Shooting To Win, a Northern Meteor full brother to Deep Field who won the G1 Caulfield Guineas.

This filly was consigned to the 2021 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale by Cressfield Stud where she was bought for $1,050,000 by Vic Bates of Roughwood Park. She was the ninth of her sire’s million-dollar yearlings at that Sale alone.

Monte Invincible is trained by Joseph Pride at Warwick Farm, and she’s had two trials this preparation, the latest of which was a win at home on June 10. She will have Tim Clark aboard for her debut from barrier 14.

Bendigo, Race 1, 12.30pm AEST, Signmob 2YO Fillies Mdn, $35,000, 1000m

Russian Glam, 2-year-old filly (Russian Revolution x Absolut Glam {Snowland})

The 2-year-old Russian Glam is a daughter of the G1 Winter S. winner Absolut Glam, who was a three-time stakes winner during her career. Absolut Glam was also second to Typhoon Zed (Zeditave) in the G1 Manikato S.

The mare was a $950,000 broodmare buy in 2010, selling at the Inglis Sydney Easter Broodmare Sale from the draft of Yarraman Park to Bowden Global Bloodstock. Among her progeny to date is the Group 3 and Listed winner Jazz Song (Fastnet Rock), a half-sister to this filly.

Russian Revolution | Standing at Newgate Farm

Russian Glam is trained at Cranbourne by Robbie Griffiths and Mathew de Kock. She’s had three jump-outs, the last of which saw her win at home on May 16. She has drawn poorly in barrier three for this race, and will have Lachlan King in the saddle.

Bendigo, Race 2, 1pm AEST, bet365 Odds Drift Protector Mdn, $35,000, 1100m

Dictionary, 2-year-old gelding (All Too Hard x Collins {Desert King {Ire}})

This gelding is very closely related to Makybe Div, being from the mare Collins, who is a full sister to the three-time Melbourne Cup winner. Collins is a daughter of Tugela (USA) (Riverman {USA}), and so is also a half-sister to the stakes winners Musket, Valkyrie Diva (Jade Robbery {USA}) and La Amistad (Redoute’s Choice).

Collins was bred and is owned by the Makybe Racing and Breeding outfit, and 2-year-old Dictionary was consigned by Lime Country Thoroughbreds on behalf of Makybe to the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. He sold to John Moloney for $110,000.

Dictionary is trained by Moloney at Cranbourne, and he’s had just a single official trial to date. That was in February, and recently the gelding was unplaced in a jump-out. He will have jockey Jarrod Fry in his debut from barrier 10.

Looking Back

Our Looking Ahead selections on Wednesday were a mixed bag. At Randwick-Kensington, Airman (I Am Invincible) was a winner and Parallel (Redoute's Choice) was unplaced. At Eagle Farm, Russian Queen (Russian Revolution) was third.
