Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
Thursday at Gosford, we look at a filly from the family of Our Egyptian Raine (NZ) (Desert Sun {GB}), plus an unraced gelding whose dam is a half-sister to an excellent Western Australian Group 1 winner. At Bendigo, we’ve got a Frankel (GB) filly with a strong, international page.
Gosford, Race 2, 12.40pm AEST, Domain Property Group CG&E Mdn, $40,000, 1200m
Itsagooddeel, 2-year-old gelding (Dundeel {NZ} x Milanesa {Snitzel})
This unraced gelding is from the cutely named mare Milanesa, who was a 2-year-old winner and a half-sister to the dual Group 1 winner in Western Australia, Enzo’s Lad (Testa Rossa). This is the family of the G2 Schillaci S. winner Patpong (Royal Academy {USA}), who was also second in the G2 QTC Cup.
Itsagooddeel is raced by an Elite Thoroughbreds syndicate, and it was this group that bought the horse as a yearling. He was consigned by Arrowfield Stud to the 2021 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, fetching $110,000.

Itsagooddeel is trained by Gary Portelli at Warwick Farm, and he was second in a sole barrier trial on June 24. He has drawn barrier five in this debut with jockey Brenton Avdulla booked to ride.
Gosford, Race 3, 1.15pm AEST, Coral and Jack Press Memorial F&M Mdn, $40,000, 1200m
Thinking Rain, 2-year-old filly (So You Think {NZ} x Cleo’s Raine {Redoute’s Choice})
This unraced filly has a recognisable pedigree. Her Redoute’s Choice dam is a daughter of Our Egyptian Raine, who was Champion Older Female Sprinter in New Zealand and a winner of the five Group races all up, eight stakes races in total. Also, this filly’s dam is a three-quarter sister to Egyptian Symbol (Stratum), who won twice at Group 3 level with multiple Group-placings.
This is a well-performed family, and initially Thinking Rain was consigned by Royal Stone Stud to the 2021 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale. However, she was withdrawn and retained by her breeder.
So You Think (NZ) | Standing at Coolmore
The filly is trained at Warwick Farm by Gary Portelli, and this is her debut. She’s had a pair of trials so far, the latest of which was a second to Monte Invincible (I Am Invincible) last month. She has Willie Pike aboard in this race from barrier eight.
Bendigo, Race 2, 1.30pm AEST, Signmob 2YO Fillies Mdn, $35,000, 1300m
Let’sbefrankbaby, 2-year-old filly (Frankel {GB} x Baby Pink {Ire} {Invincible Spirit {Ire}})
This filly is trained by Robbie Griffiths and Mathew de Kock at Cranbourne, and she’s shown some promise already. In a debut trial on June 14 she was third, and she’s got barrier 11 in this debut with jockey Lachlan King.
Let’sbefrankbaby has an interesting page that is heavily decorated by international form. She’s a daughter of the Irish-bred mare Baby Pink (Ire), who was a Listed winner at Galway over 2400 metres. Baby Pink is a full sister to Traisha (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}), a Group 3 winner, and a three-quarter sister to Muthmir (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}), who was a three-time European Group 3 winner.

This filly was bred by Glentree Thoroughbreds and consigned by Bhima to the 2021 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. She was bought for $400,000 by Giffiths de Kock Racing, Peter Ford Thoroughbreds (FBAA) and Heywood Bloodstock.
Looking Back
Our Looking Ahead selections on Wednesday went fairly. At Warwick Farm, Waverider Buoy (Nicconi) was a winner for the Ingham family, while Binghamton (Merchant Navy) was unplaced. At Sandown, Joyrider (Snitzel) was a scratching for the James Harron colts syndicate.
