Looking Ahead - September 7

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Our first selection on Wednesday is the Chris Waller-trained Reisinger (Fastnet Rock) and he will look to get off the mark at the second time of asking at Canterbury, while our second pick is the well-bred Orzala (Snitzel), who makes her debut in Race 2 at the same New South Wales track. Meanwhile at Sandown Hillside, Waltz On By (I Am Invincible) will attempt to break through for her first victory having finished sixth on her most recent appearance.

Canterbury, Race 1, 1.25pm AEST, Fujitsu General H., $55,000, 1550m

Reisinger, 3-year-old gelding (Fastnet Rock x Ballet Suite {High Chaparral {Ire}})

Having finished third on debut at Newcastle on August 20, this 3-year-old by Coolmore’s Fastnet Rock will try to get off the mark on his second attempt when he lines up at Canterbury. The Chris Waller-trained gelding will jump from barrier five with Hugh Bowman booked to take the ride.

Purchased by his trainer and Guy Mulcaster for $375,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in 2021, Reisinger is out of Listed Princess S. winner Ballet Suite (High Chaparral {Ire}) and she is already the dam of two winners; Royal Ballet (Fastnet Rock) and Lambardi (Fastnet Rock).

Ballet Suite herself is a half-sister to Listed Talindert S. winner Casquets (Fastnet Rock), as well as stakes-placed pair Furiosa (Fastnet Rock) and Merensky Reef (Platinum Scissors).

Further back this is the same family as Group 2 winner Flak Jacket (Rubiton) and Listed winner Maunatrice (Keltrice).

Orzala, 3-year-old filly (Snitzel x Norzita (NZ) {Thorn Park})

The John O’Shea-trained filly Orzala makes her career debut at Canterbury on Wednesday and she will be ridden by James McDonald from barrier three.

The filly is co-owned by her co-breeders Arrowfield Stud, who retained a share in her after she was purchased by Paul Moroney Bloodstock for $700,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale in 2021.

The daughter of Snitzel comes into the race off the back of an impressive Randwick barrier trial victory and she is out of dual Group 1 winner Norzita (NZ) (Thorn Park) making her a half-sister to Listed Sandown Cup winner Carif (So You Think {NZ}).

Norzita herself was purchased by Freyer Bloodstock (FBAA) for $1.7 million at the 2019 edition of the Inglis Chairman’s Sale and she is a daughter of Visique (Quest For Fame {GB}), who has produced a further five winners including Listed winner Hollows (Thorn Park).

Waltz On By, 3-year-old filly (I Am Invincible x Stay With Me {Street Cry {Ire}})

Having finished a sound sixth in the G3 Quezette S. at Caulfield in August, Peter Moody will drop the well-bred filly Waltz On By back in class on Wednesday in the hoping eking out a first victory. Luke Nolen gets the leg up on the daughter of I Am Invincible, who will jump from barrier four.

Bred and raced by Arrowfield, Waltz On By finished fourth and second in the G3 Blue Diamond Preview (Fillies) and the Listed Talindert S. respectively last season and she will attempt to break her maiden in the Group 3.

I Am Invincible | Standing at Yarraman Park Stud

The daughter of I Am Invincible is out of the Stay With Me (Street Cry {Ire}), whose three career victories were spearheaded by a triumph in the 2015 G1 Thousand Guineas. Stay With Me is so far the best progeny of multiple Group 1-winning Champion mare Miss Finland (Redoute’s Choice), who like her daughter, landed the G1 Thousand Guineas at Caulfield.

Miss Finland has produced five other winners, including stakes-placed trio Bucharest (Deep Impact {Jpn}), Earth Angel (Animal Kingdom {USA}) and Woodbine (Hussonet {USA}).
