Looking Ahead - October 15

3 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

On Saturday, our first selection is a well-bred daughter of Frankel (GB), Call Di, who will look to get off the mark at the second time of asking at Randwick. We then head to Ballarat Synthetic where Beluga Express (Russian Revolution) is engaged for his second start.

Call Di, 3-year-old filly (Frankel {GB} x Samantha Miss {Redoute’s Choice})

Last seen running seventh on debut, Call Di will look to get off the mark when she lines up in barrier four with Kerrin McEvoy booked to take the ride.

This 3-year-old filly is a daughter of the brilliant race mare Samantha Miss, among whose wins were the Group 1 double of the G1 Champagne S. and G1 Flight S., plus the G1 VRC Oaks. Samantha Miss has produced six winners and they are headed by Call Di's sister, the G2 Tea Rose S. winner Miss Fabulass.

Call Di was retained by her breeders Strawberry Hill Stud as a yearling and she is trained at Rosehill by Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou.

Beluga Express, 2-year-old colt (Russian Revolution x Kasuga {Can} {Temple City {USA}})

Having finished fourth on debut in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial S. at Flemington on October 1, this Lindsay Park-trained son of Russian Revolution will be attempting to get his head in front in a lower grade at Ballarat following the transferof Bendigo's meeting to its synthetic surface.

Beluga Express was bought by his trainers for $180,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale earlier this year and he is out of the Canadian-bred mare Kasuga (Can), who won nine times in her career and was placed at Grade 3 level on one occasion.

Kasuga was acquired by Glenlogan Park at the 2020 edition of the Magic Millions Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale and she was carrying the colt in utero at the time. Kasuga herself is a half-sister to fellow stakes-placed mare Raglan Road (USA) (Victor’s Cry {USA}).

The colt will jump from barrier two with Jake Noonan booked to take the ride.

Looking Back

With Bathurst races called off and our selection, King’s Taj (Written Tycoon), scratched at Moe, there was only one result for Looking Ahead on Friday and it came in the shape of Tickety Boom (Spirit Of Boom), who delivered a good performance to to break his maiden in Race 2.
