No Melbourne Cup for Loft

Makram also misses Cup

Later on in the afternoon on Friday, another G1 Melbourne Cup entrant, Makram (Ire) (Make Believe {GB}), was scratched from the 3200-metre contest after a CT scan revealed an abnormality.

As a result, Makram has also been scratched from the G3 Archer S. on Saturday after trainers Lindsay Park were chasing a late bid to squeeze into the Group 1 at Flemington on Tuesday.

“Connections are very disappointed, but we respect and abide by the RV protocols and at Lindsay Park horse welfare always comes first,” the statement from Lindsay Park read.

Amelia’s Jewel in good shape

Having kept her unbeaten record intact on her first start as 3-year-old in the Listed Belgravia S. last weekend, Amelia’s Jewel (Siyouni {Fr}) will have her second start this preparation in the Listed Burgess Queen S. on Tuesday.

“If you said to me at the start of the week, I'd be doing some fast work with her later in the week, I'd say you have hit your head,” Miller told TABradio.

“Her ability to bounce out of gallops or races is just remarkable. I stretched her legs on the grass this morning and it was just insane.

“She only rolled up in a tick under 24 on the grass, but still that's enough considering she only raced on Saturday.”

Harry Angel is the sire of 21 European-bred winners and he is currently serving his fourth book of mares at Darley’s Kelvinside base at a fee of $16,500 (inc GST).
