G3 Wellington S., NZ$80,000, 1600m
Finding plenty when challenged - and able to draw clear late - Devastate (NZ) (Vadamos {Fr}) was impressive recording his third consecutive win from just four starts.
The fifth stakes winner for his Rich Hill Stud-based sire, Devastate was bred by Sir Patrick and Lady Hogan from one of Cambridge Stud's best families. He was sold for NZ$160,000 through the Carlaw Park draft to Bruce Perry Bloodstock at the 2021 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale.
He is the third foal and first winner for the unraced Passion Cut (NZ) (Pins) whose placed dam Diamond Smile (NZ) (Zabeel {NZ}) produced three winners including the Group 1-placed Capital Diamond (NZ) (Lucky Unicorn), in turn dam of the G2 Challenge S. winner Gift Of Power (NZ) (Power {GB}).
Last spring paying a return visit to Vadamos with her most recent foal being a Proisir colt, Passion Cut is a granddaughter of the G1 Railway H. winner Diamond Lover (Sticks And Stones) whose six winners include the Group 1 winners Tristalove (NZ) (Sir Tristram {Ire}) and Don Eduardo (NZ), the two times Group winner Peruzzi (NZ) (Zabeel {NZ}) and the dual-Listed winner Antwerp (NZ) (Sir Tristram {Ire}).
With 21 stakes-winning descendants, Diamond Lover is well and truly doing her bit in regards to the outstanding dynasty founded by her wonderful dam Eight Carat (GB) (Pieces Of Eight {Ire}).
Listed Levin S., NZ$65,000, 1200m
Building a good record which was enhanced by this, her first success at stakes level, the 5-year-old mare Hold The Press (Press Statement) has won five of her 18 starts.
Bred by Gerry Harvey and sold by his Baramul Stud for $35,000 to Terri Rae at the 2019 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale, the locally trained bay is the fourth stakes winner for her Vinery Stud-based G1 Caulfield Guineas and G1 JJ Atkins-winning sire.
She is the fifth live foal - and one of the three winners - for the Wyong and Kembla Grange winner Asset Rain (Encosta De Lago) who died last year with her final foal being a 2-year-old Headwater filly.
Her 3-year-old Single Attraction (Not A Single Doubt), was retained by Harvey being a yet-to-race member of the Matthew Smith stable.
Asset Rain is one of the five winners produced by the imported dual stakes winner Commercial Choice (USA) (Knights Choice {USA}) - dam of the Listed winners Make Me A Miracle (Flying Spur) and La Lagune (Danehill {USA}).
The latter's placed daughter Halloween (Encosta De Lago) is the dam of four stakes winners - the G1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas winner Hasahalo (NZ) (Savabeel) and the Group 3 winners Hasabro (NZ) (Savabeel), All Saints' Eve (NZ) (Sacred Falls {NZ}) and All Hallows' Eve (NZ) (Sacred Falls {NZ}).
